My brother was a cfo of a casino for some 20 years, i know a bit about the biz.

I've never met a gambler who says.....ya know, i lose most the time but i keep at it.

In my younger days when I had disposable income we went to Reno, Vegas, and local casinos a lot. When on a trip I always paid for the trip. Played blackjack and craps exclusively. Studied both games extensively and religiously practiced their basic strategy plus aggressive money management.

It can be done, there are folks who make their living gambling. It has to be more than a hobby to do that.

I sorta made money from gambling. FanDuel offered me 55:1 odds on a super bowl pick as a new subscriber. Minimum $10 sign up and $5 bet. I took my free $280 from them and never went back.

I just googled my neighbor's son name.
He is in his early 30's, and to date, playing poker, (per google) he has won $776,906.
He is a VERY bright guy!

Actually I know a high school friend who became semi pro in poker as well. Thing about poker is, you only have to be smarter than the other people sitting at the table with you, not the odds of the house winning. blackjack, roulette, slots... all dumb. Poker maybe an exception, if you're savvy (I am not, lol).

I'd probably made a lot more than $776k by my early 30s just being a normal mechanical engineer though. Just for comparison.

As for me, I've lost about 5000$ one day and decided to quit. If you want it to work, you'll need study and practice. I do not have time for this.
But my cousin has a wonderful story of how he traveled 30 miles every weekend to play in a godforsaken casino - let's not mention the name. One fine day, he lost everything he had with him, got drunk and woke up in the hospital in the morning with beatings and blackouts. Since then, he has played exclusively online. My wife and I quit if we lose $20. Heck, I'll quit after losing $5 some days.

We treat it like any other entertainment. We each take $20 and have some fun.

We both have different strategies.

My wife will play and if she wins, she'll keep playing a while longer. If she starts losing her winnings, she'll stop.

I put my $20 in my right pocket and start playing. Anything I win goes into my left pocket. When my right pocket is empty, I quit. Doesn't matter if I'm up/down/even. I quit.

A good friend is a "semi professional poker player" he says. His wife is a blackjack dealer at a casino. He claims poker is the only game where you can win, and he's tried everything. He can tell amazing stories, and played poker against some famous people.
All in all, he would have been better off investing his money instead of gambling. It still all boils down to that old lady luck. He's won and lost a tremendous amount over the years.

First time was a $1 per round, for 5 rounds. Playing 5 spot, which I hit all 5 numbers one round

Second time was the same scenario but but I matched 3 of 5 numbers a few times in other rounds so the payout was $420.

Each time I spent a whooping $5 gambling and walked out of the restaurant $400 richer.

The last time I hit I was in the UP snowmobiling with some buddies. We ate at a bar/restaurant in Ishpeming, MI right around the corner from the cabin we rented. There wasn’t a whole lot of people in there, I’d say under 10. Everyone in the bar got a free drink of choice on me!

Haven't heard Ishpeming MI in a long time. We used to Alpine snow ski up there someplace. Always cold!
