I acquired a Bush Hog and have no idea of the manufacturer. I beautified it but want to change the gearbox oil but am at a loss. Can you give me some direction as to type of oil. I am thinking 85 w 90 possibly. Bush Hog.jpg

Yes 80w90 or John Deere corn head grease if the seals leak, even 75w90 synthetic gear oil will work.............

I put grease in my flail mower gearbox rather than spend $80 on new seals. I paid $100 for the mower. The gearbox was still in much better shape than the rest of the mower when I retired it.

Mower gearboxes are very simple devices & any reasonable lube will keep them working well. The bigger deal is not letting water or dirt accumulate in them. Mostly water due to condensation.

Rhino recommends 85/140 in their cutter gearboxes. (8' turbo)
be sure the vent cap on your box is functioning to avoid blowing seals, etc
