Pigs will survive in any weather;they didn't travel on their own.Game-farm escapee's.Had(have ?)the same problem in NY state and for the same reasons.NY banned them from farms a few years ago,still a small wild population.

What if you could take in a pair of ears to the state conservation commision office and trade them for say $50 bucks.. I bet you would keep a little sharper eye peeled then huh?

Ar-15 30 round magazine could really run into some spending money with one sounder of them things.

A lot of counties in Texas that were paying bounties on ferel hogs went to tails instead of ears.

People I know who have processed them say it's ok if prepared properly and young enough. You want to be very careful slaughtering them to avoid contracting diseases.

Most people I know don't shoot them for meat. They kill them because the feral hogs are destructive to pastures, yards, some livestock, etc.

The Ministry of Natural Resorces discurrages shooting them saying it will make them spread further. They haven't said what they are doing to rectify the problem, likely nothing but a couple live traps. I am centrally located on the north side of Lake Ontario. About 18'000 square miles of farm land surround me. My guess is we will be cralling with them in the next 5 years, like the possums.

I live in Manitoba and this is the first I've heard of wild pigs running around loose here. I know south of me there are Elk running around in the bush that once in a while make an appearance in some open fields or meadows. Story is that an Elk farmer was going bankrupt and let them loose so I guess there is a herd running around those parts but most of that area is not really suitable for agriculture so they have places to hide there. But I wouldn't hesitate to say that National Geographic was embellishing about large tracts of Canada being overrun by wild pigs.

Now that makes me scratch my head...the more you shoot...the greater they spread?

If you shoot at a group and kill one the rest of the group will move from the danger area to a new area.
