and this is why tracked vehicles are terrible at compacting a dam. Front times with a load in the bucket is about the best thing that I've found for compaction.

Inspected everything on the ctl this morning. Undercarriage looks good. Everything is tight. Sprockets are showing a little bit of wear but not seeing anything that says replace. Posting a couple of pics so hopefully someone with more experience than me can chime in if they see more than I'm seeing that says replace while the tracks are off. Also might be a dumb question but does it make sense to swap the sprockets from one side to the other for longer life if say the forward side of the teeth show slightly more wear than the reverse side?

Those don't look bad at all. But, in theory, I guess now would be the time to switch them. Hopefully you won't have the tracks back off until they are worn out.

I'm seeing a slight amount of wear on the forward side and none on the reverse side so may just rotate the sprockets while tracks are off.

Got a nice surprise. Delivery was ahead of tracking and they were brought to my door. The new tracks are heavy. Looked up the specs and these weigh 640lbs each. I could drag and roll the old ones. I can't hardly budge these on the shop floor. Going to need some help most likely.

My brother had a T300 Bobcat with those tracks. We loved them. Great traction!!! I don't think they would be long lived on concrete. But on dirt they are great. First thing you'll notice is the machine struggling to turn because of their bite. If possible I timed my turns when on a hump.

My use is about 90-95% dirt and 5-10% pallet work and snow removal on gravel. No concrete. Looking forward to seeing how these do on the slopes I'm working on.

Those new belts look knarley! Did you mention the hours on the old belts?

1400 hours on the old ones. They were the original factory tracks. Still had decent tread but developed a lot of cracks in the belt and left one finally gave out. Swapped sides on the sprockets today. Going to try to get the tracks on tomorrow.

$2700 for 1400 hours. That is a $1.92 an hour. Ouch. Glad I got steel tracks and pads. As long as my sprockets are good, I can just take a link out if stretched. But I would hate to price a set of new chains for my tracks.

That’s actually not that bad considering the work one of these will do. They make steel tracked CTLs. I’d be surprised if those or a dozer could beat the operating cost of these.

Well, you can add around 400-500 pounds for the hyd. thumb I added.

Compared to a CTL your Excavator puts very little stress on it's tracks. You'll more than likely never wear out a pair.

I agree. And a few operator considerations could extend the lifespan a bit more.

Rotating without forward/rearward movement on flat ground is very hard on rubber tracks.

I hope that is so.:thumbsup: Excessive traveling doesn't help sprockets either. I figure I'm around 50%.:confused3: The machine had 5008 hours on it when I bought it. I always try to plan ahead in my head where I need the machine and where I will wind up when finished.:2cents: Cruisin' around isn't an excavator's strong suit.:thumbdown:
