Are People Dumber than a Pothole?

Near to us there town dirt road couple miles long and each spring dirt road thaws and town puts up big sign ROAD CLOSE TO NON RESIDENCE,and each year number non residence people try and make thru mud and ruts with there fancy vehicles and ending isn't good,and some of the excuses we call stuckers give are unbelievable and damage broken plastic scratched fenders flat tires etc.

Neighbors ask why my road doesn't grow shut from the sides and have a grass strip running down the center like theirs!! "You must Roundup it a lot, huh?" :mur: I never drive in the same spot. I believe it helps keep the crown too.

It just makes you wonder sometimes doesn't it.
Couple autumns ago came upon high $$$ car park just off side on dirt road there stood couple dress to hilt,I ask if everything okay and he said think I have flat tire sure enough it was flat,then he said I think only half flat because top still has air in it :confused2: I recommended he call Triple A etc.

Our friends have a cabin on a lake. It used to be a resort with 9 cabins. It has a 1/3 mile driveway on sandy ground and it is straight and pretty flat. Eight of the cabin owners are from the cities. The road is actually in pretty good shape, but they fret over a few potholes.

And yet.....

They drive down the same ruts, even though the road is wide enough to move 4' or so left or right so it isn't two ruts. Most importantly, they keep driving through potholes when they have standing water (even though there is room to drive around them). They have the POA bring in a 1/2 load of gravel and spread it around here and there, but the potholes return.

They think the sky is falling and keep driving through the potholes. Just to prove how simple the remedy is, I took a shovel and 5 gal bucket, and filled the potholes with dirt from the side of the road and thus made a channel for future water to drain. The city folks were astonished to learn that the issue had been remedied so easily (and cheaply).

And yet ...

They keep driving down the same two ruts, and potholes if they reappear.

Are they trainable? (the people, not the potholes)

I doubt it. I have 2 roads/driveways I keep up. 1 is for my family and 1 is my little neighborhood. In both cases they seem to think it just happens by itself. I tell my family to drive the high spots. Yet every time I observe them driving on it they just slam through the dips until they become potholes.
A few times I just refused to maintain them to wait and see if anyone else ever made any effort to fix it. What a laugh. Never even seems to enter their head. I always break down because I can't stand it. I actually like doing it but I think it would be nice if someone else would at least make some effort. Been doing it for 25+ years and no change. After I die or move I wonder how bad it will get before they finally decide to think about it.

Yep, some truth there too.
