Toilet paper

Years ago I was a young Jarhead and had the opportunity to visit the Philippines. TP was unheard of there (available on-base, of course.) The bathrooms had a water tap and soap next to the toilet. That was a bit of a culture shock, but if you think about it, it's cleaner than using TP. Later on I was in Japan and liked the bidet-style toilet seats well enough that I bought them for my house. But no thanks on splashing water up from the bowl!! Yikes.

If TP becomes unavailable switch to moss.

When I went to Peru, I was surprised to learn that they had signs on every toilet to put the paper in a garbage can and NOT to flush it down the toilet.

When I was in Namibia, I learned that the locals like to use rocks to wipe with, or is it scrape with? Anyway, their was a real problem with rocks plugging up toilets there to the point that in a lot of places they got rid of the toilet and sealed up the drain pipe.

My wife is a teacher and she gets paid once a month, so she does all her shopping for the month right after payday. She bought a very large thing of TP from Sams online, along with tons of other things that we get every month, and I'm sure we have enough TP to last us into the summer. I use very little compared to her, but it's still something that I do not want to do without. Couple days later our UPS and FedEx driver will deliver half a dozen to a dozen large boxes to our house.

I get toilet paper delivered to the end of my driveway daily for 50 cents per week....

(I worked at a newspaper for 30 years and that's the retiree rate)

Way back grandfather lived in rural area.
Neighbor was of the early style pioneer mode.
Like his idea of refrigeration was to lower perishables on a cord into the surface well.

When we rec'd new phone books we'd give them to the neighbor for use in his outhouse.
The white paged (big city) would last him months.

The big city FB was more appreciated than a bottle of wine as a gift would have been.

Hanging stuff in the well Cistercian’s casing was a pretty common occurrence. Our Farm well was drilled but had a ten foot deep concrete casing just for keeping things cool.

On a serious note, I was using a major brand of TP and I was always getting irritation the rest of the day. I was really wondering if I had ringworm or some other issue. I wondered if maybe the paper itself had something in it that was causing the issue. I switched paper companies and it solved the problem.

If I could get the newspaper at that price, I'd still be a subscriber.

The other company was probably recycling sandpaper to make their tp.

On the real note, we have always....for many years... kept at least 3-4 Costco packages of tp, paper towels and napkins in the store room. This is because the trip to town takes some time and we always want to be prepared. We have not been to market for prepper stuff, only for normal perishables. Seeing to occasional nutter wearing face mask and rubber gloves is truly funny.

In local Singapore condos or houses, the toilet is often a hole in the shower. For cleanup, there's a water hose off a spigot below the shower. No TP in sight. Often no TP in the public toilets, which were both Western and Eastern (holes in the floor).

That's also common in Mexico. To my understanding, the inside of their sewage lines are rough, and the TP won't pass through properly.

I used to work for a large corporation that had a manufacturing plant in Mexico. The plant must have had its own septic system. They had signs in spanish telling people to flush their TP down the toilet; otherwise, people would carry their used TP out of the stall and put it in the garbage can by the sink.

The o/p's method is not very sanitary, but hey whatever. Might I suggest doing a rough pass with tp and finishing up with wet wipes.

As a kid in a provincial town in soviet ukraine, we hardly ever had actual toilet paper. The go-to option was the newspaper, laced with soviet propaganda and ironically called "pravda" (truth). The going joke was that pravda newspaper was only good for one thing. :D

I did a rafting trip down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River and we had a retired surgeon on the trip. He wouldn't shake peoples hands and explained why. Made sense to me and made me less apt to offer a handshake.

I wonder if the OP does the same method when he uses a public toilet? What about a port-a-potty? Would he carry a small bottle of water "just in case" he had to use a strange toilet? :confused3:

If you want to wipe your butt with a diry dollar bill go ahead .

My wife was just talking about that this morning. Haven't heard any warnings of the health hazards of paper money.

I said the touchpad on the credit card machine is as contaminated or more so than the paper money.
