Mf 30?
Hey. I have an injector pump on a mf30 industrial that is leaking severely. Even when the motor is not running. I am looking for info on rebuilding it and where to find a kit. It has an AD 203 Perkins engine. The numbers on the pump are 3240F938. It is a CAV pump.

Thanks!

This is pretty common for Perkins and CAV Pumps. They are nice in that they have very little moving parts, and are probably one of the easiest pumps that I know of to rebuild, but they have a lot of sealing surfaces to get that.

You can get rebuild kits for the CAV pumps readily, and not for much money if you chose to rebuild it yourself.

If you got 45 minutes, there is a guy that rebuilt a CAV pump for a 4.108 diesel Engine, and showed how it was done from start to finish. If I was you, I would watch that, and make a determination if you want to tackle the problem or not. A 45 minute youtube video might save you a lot of money on having it done in a shop.

It is your call, but 45 minutes doing something for free (watching youtube), would be worth it to me.

Where is the pump leaking? Sometimes it is a easy gasket job, other times it is a little more complex. There is a forum member thepumpguysc who does diesel fuel system work for a living. Perhaps he could jump in and give some advise. I had to reseal the one on my Perkins, it was an easy job, but I was lucky.

I can not find a kit that is for my pump specifically. Are they all pretty generic and include all the needed parts for most all CAV pumps?

Its hard to tell, but it looks to me like its coming from several places....not good.

Would this kit be compatible with mine?

Thanks for all the help. I may try and conquer this myself.

:laughing:That video is a Bundy Bear video.

The pumpguysc loves those videos since they result in people screwing up their pumps which makes business for pump guy to fix the mess!!

Do yourself a favor and click the link to pumpguys profile and send him an e-mail or PM.

So, would this kit be compatible with my pump?

I am not sure if that will fit your pump or not, but that was the video I was talking about.

It was interesting/not so interesting when I went to Diesel Tech School because my first teacher, an old duffer, told us at no time, in any way, should we ever touch a injection pump, but to send it out and have it rebuilt.

But that year he had a heart attack and died, so we got a new teacher. And he was younger, and of a different mind-set. He was not afraid of injection pumps because he understood how they worked, and I was a second year student then, so he had use second year students dig into them.

Your pump is just leaking fuel. It is not rocket science...it is just an injection pump, and as I said a CAV pump is probably one of the simplest to rebuild.

But this is also the internet, for every person that will tell you, it can be done yourself, there will be twenty who tell you can't. But I propose; what is the worst that could happen? If it is easy, and you fix it yourself, you fixed it for cheap. If you can't, you send it in to be rebuilt. You are not out anything...

OR.. the engine could run away.. dont forget about THAT ONE..
Yes the 7135-110 is the kit you'll need.. & a slew of "other" parts, as long as u have it apart..
I charge extra when a customer "helps".. cuz theres NO TELLIN what they've done..
It takes extra time & care trying to figure it out.. which = more $..
I had 1 fella who bought all sorts of parts they sell as a kit, online.. & not 1 of'm were for his pump..
Good thing, cuz he didnt need any of'm.. lol

I had that once.

We had rebuilt an old truck in diesel tech class, and decided to get it going. We had exhaust venting over the stack, but still...it had not been run in awhile. Well to make a long story short, we fired it up, but had a runaway. The engine was just pumping the smoke, overwhelming the ventilation system, and just pumping smoke throughout the school. Of course, that night was graduation, and you could not see from one side of the room to the other, much less the gym!

The principal came out and was yelling for us to shut the engine down, and the teacher was trying. But the thing was, just as the engine was lugging down and about to stop, my friend Steve would take the rubber mud flap off the air intake at the same time I would flick the throttle control...vrooooommmmmmmmmm it would roar back to life and of course increase the thick smoke ten fold. We did that about 5 times before the teacher caught on to what Steve and I were doing.

We came to school on Monday (3 days later) and you could still smell the diesel exhaust.

To this day, Steve and I still laugh about our "runaway" engine!

LOL! Had a similar experience in fuel injection class. A 671 Detroit took off after the rack was misadjusted. One of the students got it shut down with the emergency stop, but not until the lab had filled with smoke. Most of of the students ran away! Afterwards a couple of the students commented to the instructor about the run away and he dead panned "I just saw a bunch of runaway students!"

The old Caterpillar's used to have oil-bath air filters, and on an adverse grade, sometimes they would suck in some oil and have a diesel engine run-away on the operator: not Caterpillar's greatest design feature that is for sure.

I just always keep something handy to shove over the air intake when I start a diesel that has been rebuilt. It is a pretty simple concept: a diesel engine needs fuel and air, and if you rob it of one or the other, she will shut down.

Of course it does not help when Steve gives her a snuff of air every now and then! (LOL)

I had my local Garage "help" me by taking out the pump, I was afraid of messing up the timing. They galled up the drive gear threads, amazing what a gorilla & a hammer can do. But you were more than fair in fixing them, and when I got it back the nut threaded right back on & the trucks been running like a champ over since, no issues. I learned my lesson.
