My employer holds part of my salary aside and uses it to pay me for when I get sick or want to take time off (up to the amount of time they withhold).
You don’t need a government mandate, anyone can set this system up themselves.
The problem is most people don’t have the will power to do it when they are self employed.
Remember that quote I gave last week that only 12% of millennials are financially literate, I think the non millennials aren’t much better.
It’s amazing the number of adults who don’t understand basic taxes, withholdings, and the tax return process.

Those with the will power are self employed... And, yes... we don't need a government mandate for most things. But, you do have the benefit of unemployment insurance, I do not. But then, that was my choice 38 years ago.
