Backhoe Cracked Transmission case between bolts attaching backhoe

I hate to say it, but it's time to label that tractor a turd, and send it down the road!!

It's one of those things called, "a learning experience"!

For what it is worth. I’ve beaten the snot out of my backhoe on boulders and stumps and also used a thumb to lift said boulders and stumps. I’ve bent bucket edges. Other than pin wear and cyl. Leaks I’m no worse for wear.

I can’t see how a factory hoe should have your problems. If you stepped up system pressure then all bets are off.

Otherwise nothing should break in the machine unless your doing something crazy

Sell the tractor and replace I with a piece of quality construction equipment designed from the start as a backhoe.

It’s going to cost you at least double, and maybe as much as four time what your light duty ag equipment with an add on backhoe did, but it will be much more durable for the work you are doing.

There is a reason the major equipment manufacturers make dedicated construction equipment for the work you are attempting and you rarely see modified farm equipment on real construction sites.

The tractor/backhoe system remains "stock" in all regards with the exception of the two additional bolts Kioti had the local dealer add to the backhoe mounting bracket attached to the transmission case. I have added an additional hydraulic line to support a rock grapple in place of the FEL bucket but this has nothing to do with the backhoe mounted to the transmission case problem. Kioti offers a fixed thumb for their backhoe now. I would like to add a Michigan Iron hydraulic thumb. Any thoughts on how Kioti might view that the next time the transmission case gives way?

Without seeing how the factory subframe works, I would seriously work a deal where Kioti agrees to continue to back you and you fabricate a stronger bracket and attaches to the axle as well as runs forward to the loader's rear supports to better distribute the load. Also, I'd back out one of those transmission bolts, and probe down into the hold how far the threads go and if that shows there is more "meat" to bolt into, then get longer bolts. Moreover, if there is no love from Kioti, can the bolts be made into your sacrificial parts where the bolts break off rather than cracking and shelling your transmission case?

I'm making these suggestions because it seems Kioti is reaching for the definition of insanity expecting a different result. There is no good reason a properly designed mounting system should be cracking the transmission case even if all you do is try to move the immovable rock all day long because the pins are your wear points.

Ya Eric, you'd have to go back thru my original post (link to my original write up is in post #23. It explains everything.). I have gone through all of the boss and bolt dimensions and done just that.

Blue Jassid, I'm almost positive the MIE hydraulic thumb will not interfere with the Kioti warranty since MIE is a Kioti dealer and up-sells their proprietary hydraulic thumb systems on new warrantied tractors all the time. Call Bob in parts if you'd like to verify tho. When you get a chance will you send me a picture of the extra pair of bolt holes your dealer put on tractor please? I'm curious. The only thing I've done is increase the size of the 4 bosses around the PTO cover.

Actually, Eric brings up a good point....are you sure the fractures in question aren’t caused by bolts that are too long for the application and bottoming in the holes? That situation would potentially lead to joint failure.

I have seen it in other highly loaded joints.

Remember, the backhoe is installed at the dealership, not the factory.

I hope to see this mystery solved. If the OP has such a delicate touch and this keeps failing, there should be a gazillion hits about this issue on TBN and Google. Maybe it's just a one off? Maybe the OP forgets to use the outriggers sometimes? Maybe the design is flawed and nobody else complains about it? Maybe ... ????

No matter what, inquiring minds want to know what really happened here.

^^ I've been trying to cut back a bit on posting, reading more threads than replying to. I've read this one several times and I still can't accept that a high stress implement like a backhoe would be attached to anything other than the solid frame. We've seen numerous threads about the perils of three point backhoes and I'm not sure this is much different. It just sounds like an exceptionally poor design. My BH doesn't touch the transmission case at all, let alone being bolted into it.

I might have been looking into my state's consumer protection laws by now.

Curios if you have pics or know what bolts were added? This could be something others may want to look into.
