Poured second cup of coffee. 24ー with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 36ー with partly cloudy skies. Restocked bird feed supply on way home from meeting Irv. Now at 350 lbs for this winter. Got a ceiling fan/light for bedroom. Hope to get it installed today. No other plans. Finally got my taxes and signed. Addressed envelope and sealed. Old envelopes, flap came unglued. Out of tape. Missed yesterdays mail. Going to try again today. :(

Don, I will try harder to get the TBN Wildlife Oscar award next year. But it's hard to beat cute fox pictures. Especially if they are eating donuts. :D

RNG, I tried to get a moon picture this morning. But this is what I got. Need tripod and different setting to make it come out right. Next time you see moon during daylight hours. Take a picture.

Eric, good winter pictures. Are those Canadian Geese?

Buppies, lots of equipment repairs/maintenance.

David, RNG beat me to it. What color?

Drew, good to hear you are feeling better. I have never had good luck sending emails to a Dr's office. Calling sometimes work with a little crying thrown in.

Prayers and best wishes for everyone.

Good Morning All.

Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 4:30AM. Sunny. High 72F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Spent some time googling for a cement mixer yesterday morning, and not turning up much of anything. Yes, there were the typical small mixers with plastic barrels and electric motors, but those won't get the job done, not reliably. Amazon had one no-name offering at around $4K, but I'd need far more info before spending that kind of money. That didn't leave me with many options if revival of the old mixer didn't pan out. So out in the garage, I dumped out the cleaner from the gas tank, and as noted was disappointed at the lack of results. Scrubbed and rinsed through the filler neck as best I could, then stuck the heat gun in there for half an hour to get it bone dry. Put everything back together, but couldn't even get a sputter. A shot of starting fluid did git'er goin' but only briefly, but long enough to show the engine had compression and spark. Off came the carb, which turned out to be gunked up with rusty water and some kind of white powder. Ran a wire through all the jets, finding some clogged, and finished up with shots of Berryman's cleaner all around.

Put it back together, and after another shot of starting fluid, it kept running this time. It was good to see the ol' gal back in action again after so many years of slumber. And you can bet when it's put away this time, there'll be some kind of tarp put over it. I'm thinkin' a trip to the hardware store for a BBQ cover might be just the ticket.

Got a little jolt of excitement as I came out of the garage yesterday and found a huge plume of black smoke billowing up across the canyon, accompanied by small and large explosions. That was quickly followed by sirens, and not much later than that the smoke started to die down. Turns out a car had burned, but it wasn't made clear if it was stolen or someone was just having a bad day. Hope to find out more in today's neighborhood news group on Facebook.

Had to move the van yesterday so I could bring the trailer full of steel up to the garage, and for the first time in quite a while, it sputtered on the first turn of the key, and started on the second. Whatever the problem is, it's temperature sensitive, as the thermometer was showing a comfortable 72F, warmest day of the year so far. That should be some kind of clue, but I've already replaced the temperature sensor, and the code reader reports that the engine control module is reading the correct temperature.:confused2:

Got the pipes unloaded without smashing any toes or fingers; cutting that last band around the bundle made a heck of a noise as the pipes spread out over the steel trailer deck! Gosh those twenty-four footers were heavy! Verified that the guys at the steel yard got the cuts made properly, which after everything else that went wrong, was a pleasant surprise. There are still more cuts to be made, so today I'll get them all measured and marked, and double checked, before I wheel the bandsaw out on the driveway and use the forks on the tractor to put them in place. Trying to have a be-kind-to-your-back day today.

Good morning! 41˚F cloudy, light mist. FireWise canceled this morning, there will be better days.

Eric are those Egyptian Geese? Which direction are they flying?

David, I too am concerned about the water runoff on both sides. Are you having an overhang or will the roof metal curl down at the wall? If you have a overhang how many inches and will you have gutters and where will they drain?

RNG, if the cut were made properly why the need for a bandsaw?

Wow, I'm just full of questions this morning.

RNG, if the cut were made properly why the need for a bandsaw?

Good question, Don. The steel yard charges three bux a cut, the pipe came in forty foot lengths, and the steel yard won't deliver to my location. I'm frugal, so I only ordered one or two cuts per stick so that the pieces would fit on a trailer, and that I'd be able to manage them when completing the remaining cuts. Also, I won't know the needed lengths for the cross braces, which run between the vertical posts that will support the solar panels. That's because I know that the augered holes are not positioned with great precision, and the cross braces will need to be cut to fit after the uprights are in position. And finally, because of more uncertainties in the installation, I'll need to cut the uprights to height after they've been installed. I'll do that by using the laser level to establish a level datum on each upright, and then apply an inclinometer on a long straightedge to determine the height of the taller north row so that the solar panels will be oriented at 25° from the horizontal. I'm told that angle offers the best compromise between summer and winter optimum sun angles for this latitude. The uprights can be rough cut on the horizontal bandsaw, which is what I'll do today. And the cross braces will be cut the same way, once the dimensions are determined from measurements made on the installed uprights. But the final trim of the uprights will need to be done with the porta band, standing on a ladder, or maybe the tractor bucket, on steep ground. Here, hold my beer...

Both the IRS and my credit union show my refund should be deposited tomorrow.

41 degrees going for a rainy high of 42 today. Yep, not much change. I got about .45" of rain yesterday so we'll see what today brings.
