Ford 7.3L Gas Engine

If MPG matters then the test needs to be repeated at comparable speeds. The F-250 went up the hill faster and should be no surprise that more fuel was consumed.

If you watch the videos, you will see that most times, the trucks were FLOORED going on the uphill portion while trying to maintain a given speed. They did not choose to drive one slower than the other. It is a timed event to climb 8 miles with 16k hooked to the truck and they abide to a max MPH speed. If a truck has a slower time, it struggled more to maintain speed on the steep sections. Have you ever been on the Ike? It can be very tough for loaded trucks.

I've pulled my 12K pound 5th wheel up the Ike with my '12 F-250 and 6.2 gas with the 3.73 gears...

Yeah, you know you're on a hill alright. Long uphill grade + high elevation = working it pretty hard.

I didn't consider the F250 a high level trim truck at all.

I thought the downhill portion might favor the GM with less gears. Bigger split would result in more resistance to overspeed when it shifted down??

The truck they used was a Lariat edition. That's just one step below the highest, which I believe is still the Platinum.

Wrong truck.

That was a different truck.

Did you happen to notice it was a different color?

:laughing:Ha...that's funny....you're right. I also see they didn't have the sound meter with them with the 7.3....

ruffdog,

Yeah, I noticed they forgot the sound meter.

I also don't know why they bought 2 of the 7.3 trucks. The grey(?) one is supposed to be their new "long term project" truck? I guess they're going to do a bunch of aftermarket mods to it? Ok, fine. But they could have run the Ike test with it while stock? Instead of buying a whole second 7.3 truck? Maybe the blue one they used for the Ike challenge wasn't purchased, and just borrowed for the test?

Maybe the blue one has some miles on it (factory demo) before running the Ike.:confused3:
