Hard to tell from the pic, but looks like just the breather box??

Search for thread on 2003 3430 battery removal.

Two thumbscrews allow removal of front grill. Look inside around the grill. Might have to remove the grill guard.

Hey, you might be onto something. I can see one thumbscrew to the right of the breather. I can see part of the other one to the left of the breather. Good stuff Chewwy!!!!

Pull the headlamp assembly off. Two thumbscrews up near the top, disconnect the headlamps and off she comes, exposing the battery.

Yes can see them in your photo there. While you are there check your pistons lol.

See the thumbscrew in upper right hand corner of your pic. There should be one on left side too. Removal of both should allow grill to be removed along with all the other crap blocking your access.

You might want to clean up that battery holder area, and apply two coats of OSPHO to the rusted steel.
Battery is 14 years old?
No dates are punched out?
If it really is 14 years old, just replace it, unless you want to try to replace it some cold snowy Sunday night, when every place is closed.
You could try keeping a "Battery Minder" on it now, to attempt desulfating, but 14 year old plates must be wearing thin.

May be dirt not rust but will clean it up and take your advice if rust.
I also thought it odd no pounched date. Gonna take a closer look for another date stamp.
Tractor has just under 1800 hrs. Put 300 on it in last three years since I quit the 9-5 grind. SO, it has not been started and worked as much as a typical 14 yr-old might have been.

removed thumbscrews to drop grill forward
disconnected headlamps
Pulled up gently on grill and entire piece came off
disconnected battery
removed it from left side as facing tractor

That logic would seem to mean that a battery would last forever, if .....doing the same thing.
Somehow I do not think that is quite how batteries actually do work.
Is the OP likely to get 20 years, 30 years, 40 years, out of that battery by .....doing the same thing?
Should he......wait until the battery dies at the most inopportune moment, and then quick, try to find a new one?
I find those type surprises to be particularly annoying.

Do you get 14 years out of all your batteries? Neither do I. Would a battery tender have extended the batteries life? Who knows.

I agree. I think 7 yrs is the most i have ever gotten out of one. and i thought that was great, Lots of the newer batteries seem to come with less life these days.

I have an L2800 of the same year with the original battery. I’ve been thinking of replacing it. Any suggestions on where to buy another battery that lasts for 14 years?
