Finally but I agreed to go back to work just to help out when they get stuck which is next week!
Applied for a pension from the Government and it was granted, I receive the princely sum of $6.20pa (yes folks six dollars and twenty cents a year) but I do get a pensioner concession card which gives me discounts on electricity, water, rates, vehicle registration and a few other perks.
Started work when I was 14 (school deemed me a no hoper and intellectual midget) and became an electronic tech then off to university where I gained 2 BA's, 1 MA and a Phd in Forensic Psychology which is what I still dabble in.
Turned 70 mid December.
I am now officially a farm labourer, fencing contractor, stock feeder, horse whisperer, dog trainer etc etc.
Self funded retiree hence the massive pension from the Government but I have enough to buy a new car should I need one and generally do what I want, firefighting is not high on my list of priorities and I'll leave that for the young ones.
No debts apart from the missus who overheats my water cooled VISA card on 'bits' we could have never got by without (?)
So bum down and feet up for a few days while I appraise my newfound status.

That's really great, congratulations. Sounds like your career history took some interesting twists.

That can be fun, if you had coworkers who you enjoyed working with. Show up on your own terms and remind them that you're still "The Man".

Coworkers were fine, management were the problem, full of over educated idiots with degrees in questionable subjects expected to be expert in non related areas, one had a degree in women's issues, can anyone explain to me what that is because I'm damned sure I have no idea.
Whyen I was at Uni there were 3 main ones, one was right wing, one left wing and one was middle of the road, I went to the right wing as it carried the most weight when seeking work and had more credibility, the left wing was full of hairy legged, bald headed feminists who spent their time waving placards at non relevant protests or writing protest songs.
Somehow we have one of these on our management team and she is an absolute lost cause.

degree in women's issues,
Oh. THAT type. I guess that they aren't limited to this side of the ocean.

I thought it was only us, they do make you feel unique don't they.

At the very least, we are supposed to treat them like they're something special.

I'm not a sexist in any manner. I try really hard to treat everyone the same regardless of gender.

So,,,, why are you supposed to treat them like they are something special??? Isn't that promoting the very response that you are opposed to??? :)
