Good morning!!!!

No cookies, cakes, nor even a semi-edible fruitcake around here. :(

Temperature is now 31ºF and it has been snowing since late morning with some accumulation. Lights have been flickering occasionally, but a well maintained and treed line runs along our road. 1/2 of MA’s reported power outages occurred around here and southward in the higher elevations.

Kyle- That dogwood was split badly; half of it died. We’ll see about the living half. A lot of my native dogwoods are hurting with this storm because of all the wild grape vines intertwined in their branches making them top heavy.

Ted- I am happy to read that everything is returning to “normal” for you and Dona. and I hope that you can all relax.

David- I hope that you and Sophie have a nice last Happy Hour of 2019.

Lou- There have been a couple of reports and doppler radar reflections of thunder snow south of Albany heading NE/NNE. Thanks for sharing the picture. Around here the wet/frozen line was ~ 1000’. I am +1300’ at our driveway.

Finally I have some clarity on the e-muffins. We are regular consumers. An e-muffin + 2 TBSpns peanut butter with 2 TBSpns jelly = 370 calories.

I hope everyone is having a manageable day today.

those look great. Hope you get them all taken care of before the New Years... :)

I take Terazosin (smallest dose 5mg), given to me for BPH. It is an alpha blocker too, but it covers a wider array. Flomax is more targeted to just BPH. I tried to wean off of it and switch to Flomax and my BP went sky high. so back to Terazosin. When I was put on it, my BP was decent 135/82 ish. When I tried to wean myself, my BP skyrocketed and anxiety made it worse. I want to say it went up to 170/92 or so. So, it's one of those things you definitely don't leave town without a supply.

Good to hear things are not too bad in the Randy camp.

Drew, where will the tile drain to? Is this from the back swampy pond to the ditch? Those "huge Cypress trees" might have some value.

My buddy invited me and my 9 year old down to the gulf coast Saturday to go fishing. This was in land fishing. Actually on a tributary of Matagorda bay. We didn't arrive until 2:30 to his house, but he still had some boat maintenance to finish, so we didn't leave until around 3:30...Got to the fishing hole around 4:30 and caught maybe 10 small fish (non-keepers) but still had fun. Good lesson to teach son patience. He did well. So this boat is rigged up with a small air motor also and lights on the front for flounder gigging. Buddy says "we might as well try a little floundering we are here". As the sun went down we stowed the fishing poles and fired up the air motor. We ended up getting 5 nice 14-15" flounder. My son gigged his first flounder. Some of the best eating fish IMO. He offered me some, but he's sank a boat load of money into this boat and I told him you enjoy them. "We'll come back and try for more soon." Anyhow, really good experience for the son.

Short history lesson. The Frenchman LaSalle missed the Mississippi and went into Matagorda Bay. They constructed Fort St. Louis out of timbers to try to protect themselves from the cannibalistic Karankawa indians. Didn't turn out so well.

When we got down there to the water, the wind was sustained at 35+mph with higher gusts, but the creek we were on has protective bluffs. I watched the very most southern tips of the storm clouds go by, knowing the trouble they are going to cause for up north for you guys. The higher the winds down here, the more turmoil up northeast. After the front passed, the winds died down really low.

Off today, and until Jan 2nd. Need to catch up on some chores. 35F going to 59F . I have a spare pair of oxyacetylene bottles, that an older lady gave me when her husband passed away. I'm going to sell them, but the hoses were rotten, and the big Victor regulator gages are acting up. So, it's just the bottles. Trying to figure out what they are worth?

Nice pictures. Ron, I have a pic of Don standing on his bridge, just shortly before he sold his place. We had a nice golf cart ride around his place that day. Whipper was keeping us safe from everything dangerous, running ahead of us. That dog has some uncanny back country/woods "street smarts".

Jay, sorry about your dogwood. I did not know that icing would kill them, if I'm understanding you right.

Dabs, like Eric said, I sure would have been tempted to give step son the empty box from the new one, all wrapped up nice. :)

Have a blessed day all.

The Indians might have eaten him, but at least he got a car named for him!

72° !! Seat time today, been at at lower rear of the property leveling old stump sinks, moved a bunch of dirt from my creek side topsoil pit. Time to put up the tractor and check on my pork roast.

   / Good morning!!!! #104,285
Randy- I can almost smell your pork roast cooking.

The lightning alert app on my iPhone just sounded. It looks like thunder snow storm cells are further developing to my Southwest and around Albany,NY continuing to head NE/NNE and are now in the vicinity. Lou- Some of those thunder snow cells are heading in your general direction.

Kind of sad that I am getting my jollies today staring semi-blankly at a monitor.

I went back to bed. No hydro = no computer time. Might as well sleep. We in and around South River had no power, but there was power in Sundridge 5 miles south of me.
Foodland had Dempsters 12 grain bread on sale 2/$5.oo there are now 6 loaves in the freezer and will probably be more tomorrow. I can live on PB&J sandwiches, IF I must. Homemade marmalade on toast is great!

Drew, where will the tile drain to?

It begins what we call locally the Blue Line ditch system, which I actually pay 17 bucks each year to help maintain.
It really starts the next property over so I'm on my own to keep my part clear. It finally drains into the Pamlico River.
Lot of effort spend this year unclogging it, mostly from pine needles accumulating behind roots.

And I did think I'd have good ROI on this, even if I can't finish the job, a new owner will have a wonderful and inexpensive project
enabled by a nice new culvert over the ditch.

At least you only got greens and yellows, rather than purples.

The purples were where the real energy developed. I am actually glad to have avoided it. Still more to come.

This was one awesome unique Winter storm. I can not remember anything like this ever happening before the way it evolved. I need to go to the weather brainiac site and post the ?.

I did get some thunder snow with T&L and hail. So Life weather-wise is good.

BEF- Yes Northampton is our "Big City." An interesting, eclectic, crunchy granola, PC kind of college town with many really decent restaurants serving a wide variety of global/regional cooking styles; and poor parking.

Went to town with my wife to pick up a few things.. first to Walmart to get ice pack and keychain remote batteries.. of course a few extras ended up in basket. Then to Starbucks to get some coffees since today a purchase got 125 points, then on to Costco for a few things, $88 for less than full shopping cart. Costco hotdog for lunch and then a quick stop at local grocery store for a gallon of milk (don't drink enough milk to get two gallons at time from Costco). Home again.

Put new batteries in Simplisafe keychain remotes, yay they work now. So the whole system is working (blue light blinking because I don't have remote monitoring setup). The second siren sync'd this morning when I did the same procedure as yesterday, keychain remotes will be nice to arm and disarm.

Enhanced driver license came today, even included a foil type sleeve to put it in to shield RFID.. it has a smart chip with bunch of info apparently so that works for me.

Hi everyone, I’m catching up after several months away. It’s good to have my tractor back as well, it’s been at a good friends for his project for the last few months. He made me up a ssqa snow plow, looking forward to trying that out, possibly as soon as tomorrow after this snow storm clears out.

“Finally I have some clarity on the e-muffins. We are regular consumers. An e-muffin + 2 TBSpns peanut butter with 2 TBSpns jelly = 370 calories.”

The e-muffins had me going too. It’s all about the pb& j, and the fork split...

I was just there for the first time last Friday. My wife’s daughter and husband just bought a house in nearby Holyoke. Green eggs, bacon and a biscuit with jelly for breakfast at “The Green Bean”. First time eating green eggs too, they were pretty good! :D
