The pallets prolly has commandeered the cars and are heading out to the fields!

because free wood
And most of the time that would make sense. Normally the cars are total POSs. But that looked like a fairly nice car. But at 40 pounds each that is a rollover looking for a place to happen.

Regardless of the rollover or cargo loss potential, that's gotta' be puttin' a hurtin' on the car roof.

That roof is made out of steel, it doesn't have feelings.
While it MAY scratch the paint, chances that it would shorten the useful life of the vehicle is almost non existent.

Your typical salesman and the leased company car.

Saw a Civic going the opposite direction on the freeway yesterday with a snowmobile on the roof headed toward the famous Coquihalla... In the fast lane of course.

Sure, but use an appropriate vehicle or a trailer to bring them home...

I had that discussion many times on another site I used to belong to... the same people who felt they should dictate what people drive, own, or do were the same who said "I've done that" when I commented on people hauling plywood or a mattress home on the roof, with a hand out the window to help hold it down.

I moved 7 pieces of 20' long cyclone fence toprail on top of a station wagon. But I also rigged up supports from the trailer hitch and front bumper frame to carry them nearly level while strapped down and secured towards center. Over a 30+ mile drive, they didn't move an inch.

Actually, I think the hand out the window is just to make sure it's still there.

I'm not sure if you're implying that I'm trying to dictate what they do or not... but I'm not. I'm just saying that there are smarter ways to do things. People are free to do stupid things and wreck their own $h1t. I'll still think they are idiots, but that's their choice.

It is about what they have to do the task and what they have been taught. For many of these folks a truck or trailer is a luxury they can't afford.

Hopefully the DOT and police can stop and "educate" these folks before they hurt or kill them selves or others.

Not at all. My comment was directed at people who endanger the lives of everybody else on the road by doing dumba$$ things like hauling things on their roof without a way to properly secure them. Granted that may be all that they have; but at least take the time to find a way to do it safely, as mentioned by DigginIt above.

A person can drive the most expensive truck out there, and still have an unsafe load; while another can think about what they're doing and haul the same thing with a Pinto.

As long as they don't get hit from behind! :fiery:

My beef often is seeing stuff secured so as to stay in place for the journey, but useless in a panic stop or collision. See contractors with ladders like that all the time.

It must be nice to be able to afford the perfect equipment for EVERY possible situation.

There’s a big difference in making do with what you have and being stupid and careless .
