TESLA Electric Truck?

All I can say is WOW.
I don't want to see this thread overwhelmed by the nay-sayers like the EV thread I started in 2017. That thread got closed by a moderator after some 800 replies, after the scorn for EV's, financial analysis pointing to the value of EV's, and basic scientific research, became overwhelming.

Here's an example:

A couple of other participants took this more seriously than I did and PM'd me to be cautious. One said he would contact that poster's local authorities if I suddenly quit posting.

It seems that some people take resistance to change, as seriously as they take their own deeply held religious beliefs.

That's incomprehensible to me.

What's next? Taking away their backyard Deep Fryers?

I would have bet money in the 80s that the V8 was no more. And the primitive portion of my brain was very sad indeed. Cops were driving around in Riliant K cars!

The only real constant is that change is inevitable. That doesn't mean an individual has to participate. K-cars? Those were as bad as the Chevy Citation that I bought new and didn't last 50k miles. 'You can identify the pioneers. They're the ones with arrows in their backs'. :)

I find the concept of a large battery, that can also power light loads to a house if needed, which is also in a Vehicle, to be very interesting. I guess what I'd like to see is a real world test of an EV car/truck that can plug-in to supply electricity, in the same sense as say.... a 4400 Watt Gasoline Generator, to a house, and how long it can do that. I could probably pencil out what can be expected, but I'd like to see the results of real application and cost weights. Its seems like there is always a solution, until you factor in the overall life cycle cost. Then it doesn't make sense, and the "old ways" make more sense. And then there is always the tweak that can happen in improving "Old Tech," such as adding a feature to an already existing tech like an ICE Vehicle that would let you plug it in to power your house while the grid was down, and it would run like a stand alone generator. Why iCE vehicle designers are not doing this, I don't know. They should have an option.... here is your generator. It doesn't have to be an ALL Electric or All Gas, division narrative.

Do you mean like this? Chevrolet Silverado 15 Hybrid Models, Generations & Redesigns | Cars.com

Details on this, just as the newer 2019 offerings are slim. If memory serves me correctly though one of the selling points was that contractors would be able to drive to the job site, then use it to power their tools.

I am really interested in this tech.,not for myself but for my kids and grandkids. We put in a P.V. solar system 6 years ago and the 1st year we ended up with the utility co. owing us $9.00 or so. Break even ,which is what we wanted. We are in a net metering system with the utility paying us a small fraction of what they charge for power. One of the biggest complaints is that if the power grid goes down so does the solar. Now how are you going to charge the E.V.? Also since that first year our bill has gone up every year to the point that last year it cost us $500.00 +. We are real conservative old folks and our use hasn't gone up but the cost has.Our state govt. mandated ,a couple of years ago, that all new homes be built with roof top solar, now they have changed it to that or utility power that was solar generated. How would you know.

There are many bugs to be worked out to make this all work and the biggest problem I see is keeping the power co's solvent while limiting their lobbying power over the government to make it affordable.I'm just glad that my time is about up and the younger generations will have to solve it, and I'm sure they will.

I'm not so sure. We and our forefathers left a pretty big mess.

I am just thinking out loud about the armor glass; what happens in emergency situations when you need out and can’t get the door open. Laminated glass can be almost impossible to bust completely out.

I am thinking of truck sinking in water or fire after a wreck before EMS shows up with equipment.

You can add Tesla Powerwall(s) which have 13 kWh of battery that will fake your PV system into staying operational during an outage plus make up for what the PV is not producing... for a while. IIRC the first Powerwall is about $10k and then $7500 for each you add thereafter.

But that was all before we had reached the EV tipping point. :)

Thanks for your efforts from back then.
