no more Land of Lakes butter? say it ain't so....
Land O'Lakes owner Dean Foods files for bankruptcy - CNN

bad news in dairy town. Looks like Walmart helped to put them out of business

We have so much excess capacity in certain food items and yet folks go hungry around the world.
I know there are groups that work on this and try to solve the logistical problems. Dairy being mostly refrigerated
is a short shelf life item, not like hard cheese. Can't they dry it and make instant milk out of it?

Before food stamps, dry, powdered milk and cheese were staples of the government food program. Guess current recipients prefer to buy junk food.

Sodamo, that was a big quake. Hope all is safe and secure at your place.

Jay, our snow today looks like yours...snowed hard for 1.5 hours, but too warm to do any more than a slight white coating.

They were also staples for me when I was a starving college student. Made my own yogurt, from that same powdered milk, too.

"Ate more chicken than man ever seen", too.

A bland diet was a big motivator to finish school and get a good paying job, but I guess these days values have changed.

🤙 nice to hear you are going Outback. I would caution against doing a mixed system if you want to monitor online - stay all Outback - Radian, FM CCs, Hub10, Mate3S, FNDC, OpticsRE all the manuals are online.

Radian offers a couple of options to trigger autostart. most likely I値l stick with same as I have, let AUX trigger the relay in my transfer switch. It can also act as own relay.

Agree 100% on same maker components. The first quote used Schneider Electric parts, and I was impressed with the technical documentation available online. Good to hear the same is true for Outback, and I already know they've been in the business almost since the beginning.

I'll dig out the details later for the Radian inverters, but do you plan to trigger the generator based on battery bank SOC?

Bill- If I see any additional snow today it will be from the Great Lakes. 24コF presently with increasing wind. Tonight I should see single digit low temps and sub0コF windchill with similar morning low temps tomorrow.

RNG- Wifey and I made yogurt from dried milk as well. It was pretty decent for the $;). After +20 years of year-round use/abuse my BGE is starting to crack internally and externally. Thank you for the link. I like the new competitor's model, the Kamado Joe Classic III, but $1600 is a little steep and I probably get similar performance with some of the tricks that I've learned over time like adding a heat diffuser, water/steam bath, etc. That article praised the BGE's ability to effectively control stable heat. I know I can smoke at 180ºF and get the temperature hot enough to warp a heavy duty aluminum dutch oven, warp stainless steel tong utensils, and make cast iron glow red hot. I cook our steaks ~ 700ºF; they cook quickly;) We'll see if our current BGE makes it through the winter. ;)

Great poems Rick & Eric.

It’s been snowing fairly hard for an hour plus, but still above freezing. Very windy 34 with wind chill of 24. Snow starting to coat the grass.
Waiting for tractor dealer to call me back to discuss his quote and get a price on industrial tires vs turfs and installing a step for my old legs to get up easier.
Snow is quite heavy now.
Have a good day, prayers.

I really like the new and improved model, but $1600 is a little steep.

It is a bit steep, but that $1600 amortized over 20 years is only twenty-two cents a day.

I paid what I thought was an outrageous price for a Blaze BBQ last year, but every time I use it I don't even think about the price.

You can buy Radian on amazon. Can you stack 2 for 8kw?

Went to a new mexican restaurant after PT, was ok. It had great reviews. I’m still hungry after getting their burrito, that came with no rice or beans.

Saw a couple snow flakes drift down. Temp dropping all day. Now 35° and cold wind.

"It is a bit steep, but that $1600 amortized over 20 years is only twenty-two cents a day."- RNG I'll remember this when I start whining, groveling, and kowtowing to get a replacement. That hyperbolic smoke chamber thingie reads interesting. I need to research this.

I'm rather enjoying the short timer attitude I am experiencing today... hope they figure out who is taking my old work over so I can start them down the path... anxious to get going on new job.

19F clear sky temps 10F tonight...going to make ice tonight. :(

Didn't plan on plowing driveway but 3 1/2" snow and ice with cold weather arriving back blade did good job  only dug in 2spots oops. :(
Wood furnace purring like new born kitten sleep and wood heat on the old bones feel great.
Looks like recliner and num num movie tonight.

Enjoy evening all .

Some of my favorite memories are clearing driveway, snow falling gently as I finish up and park tractor, then come in a get a cup of cocoa and sit and watch tv in front of stove reclined in my easy chair..

One of my favorite memories was walking over to the barn to feed the cows, in the falling snow after dark with the Christmas tree lit by the front picture window. Our barn isn’t close to the house, so was a good little walk.

On that note, dad says he’s selling the rest of the cows, as it’s too hard for him to take care of them at 95 yo. He physically can’t do it any more. That was his life.

Will he be leasing the land to another rancher to keep his AG exemption? Good time to sell before having to feed them all winter.
