Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

Is 'Chinesium' and 'Unobtanium' made by the same outfit? Or is the Chinesium tools made form unobtainum?

No matter since it's all processed via Administratium.

Went to HF today to get some more shop towels and saw one package that was noticeably thicker than the others.
I know they source from numerous suppliers but the supplier that makes the #64730 is way better than the others.
First time I saw these, always before the thin usual ones, and they only had the one package.
Probably not wrapped quite as tight, like some of the staff.

That is good, and true.....

Bought a pack of their shop rags ONCE. Never again. About as absorbent as a sheet of plastic. Think they are rice cloth or something odd.

If you try to use them straight out of the package they wont even absorb water but they work fine after a quick wash.

My Snap-on 1/2' drive torque wrench goes to 250ftlbs & will torque L & R hand threads.

Amen on the shop rags.. I was about to give up on them picking anything up.. UNTIL.. I ran some thru the wash..

My Blackhawk 3/4 drive goes to 1500 pounds feet (and takes the extension bar and a plump operator to get there.....lol

Watched a couple You Boob vids discussing the HF Icon wrench versus the Snap-On. Seems like the Icon meets and exceeds the Snap-On in repeatability and values on single application torque. Pretty impressive in as much as the Icon is about 1/5th the cost. Same 4 and 6 percent tolerances too.

I don't know how authoritative it is, but I just came across this interesting blog on Snap-on tools. Talks a bit about their offshore manufacturing as of 2018.

Without reading it, I can say from personal experience that a large percentage of Snap-On and MAC stuff is off shore sourced. Bought a
'Genuine" Snap-On 12 volt test light off the tool truck, opened the box and on the inside flap it said... "made in China". 98 bucks. That was my last purchase off the truck. Could have bought one at HF for 15 bucks, probably identical except for the logo and the snazzy green coiled cord.

I realize the tool truck guy has to make money to survive and the tool truck comes to you not you go to a store so, it's convenient and Snap-On (as well as MAC sell tools you cannot get anywhere else, like specific tools for old style Cummin's PTO pumps but none the less, 98 bucks versus 15 is highway robbery and I was stupid for buying it. Learned my lesson and lightened my wallet.

One other thing the tool truck does is extend credit with no finance charges. You pay every week on your stuff.

Also, I'm reasonably confident that Snap-On and MAC have much tighter quality controls in place than many other manufacturers and vendors that partially source from offshore. And the convenience, accountability and credit that the tool trucks offer is big. But wow, $98 for a 12v test light seems pretty steep.

According to the blog I linked to, Snap-On has a feature on their website that allows the viewer to see the country of manufacture for their products. Haven't tried it yet, as I couldn't even get on their website a short while ago.
