Are you choosing which news to read to help you form an opinion, or to just reinforce an opinion that you already have?

I've been using the following website for a few days now as I check the background of a website before reading the website itself. It's not perfect, since it will probably have some bias itself. Some folks at MIT used it as part of a research project, so they thought it was pretty good. I was surprised how few of the common news sources fall into the "Least Biased" category (see the red bar near the top of the website). Our two national newspapers in this country were both "Right-Center Bias" and the most watched national TV news program was "Left-Center Bias", as examples. If where you're getting your news falls into the "Left Bias", "Right Bias", "Conspiracy-Pseudoscience" or "Questionable Sources" categories, though, it would be good to consider that question that I posed up above.

This is what I perceive you and rekeys as

lilranch2001 - you can write whatever words that you want as coming from you, but DO NOT make up a quote and attribute it to someone else. Remove the quote that you have made up as "Originally Posted by Chris Lowe" in post #198 a few minutes ago.

Part of this is true. The oceans are major drivers of earth's weather and climate. As the oceans warm up two visible results are more severe hurricane seasons in the US and dying coral reefs around Australia. But the oceans aren't warming up because of thermal vents (known or unknown) that do their thing at a relatively constant rate. The oceans are heating up because they absorb most of the heat being trapped in the atmosphere by increasing levels of greenhouse gases. Here's a simple explanation from a reliable source:
Ocean warming facts and information

This is 100% conjecture and entirely unproven...and FYI nat geo is NOT a reliable source...!

Richard - you've stated that you get your information from Reuters, which also reports the same thing:
Oceans warming faster than expected, set heat record in 218: scientists - Reuters

What are the information sources that you're really using that you consider reliable?

It's ludicrous to even think that there are any truly unbiased news media sources...you have to be able to discern the wheat from the chaff and once a source has proven themselves to present tainted data they should be removed from the collective...which leaves absolutely NO media sources that promote the AGW agenda...they have ALL presented data that has been tainted and or improperly collected...

AGW is the biggest scam ever presented to the public...watch and learn...!

Piney, I completely agree with you, even some of the reporting on the right is untrustworthy.
The fact is, only God knows!

Not only is that false news it's old false news...and I don't care if it's an individual a consortium etc...once an entity has been caught using tainted, improperly obtained, altered (adjusted...cough!) etc., etc...they can no longer be trusted with ANYTHING else they say on the subject...
You always have to consider the source...it is imperative...
It's like the old adage: "If the facts don't fit the theory...change the facts"

This is a quote from the source of your (old) false news provider (paraphrased):
...journalistic freedom and liberal values of the Guardian free from commercial or political interference".
This is a contradiction in terms...they say they have liberal values but they want a free hand to not be questioned on them...it does not get much worse than this rag to hide behind the word "journalism"....

And I also agree that there are no truly unbiased news sources. Everything is written by people (well, until recently) and we almost all introduce our biases into what we write, even if unintentionally.

None of us on TBN, probably, have access to the raw data or have the technical training to evaluate the data to make our own interpretation of the results. So none of us can decide about AGW based on our own analysis. What we have to do is evaluate the sources of the information that we're reading and decide if they are more reliable and unbiased than the other places that we can get info from.

That website that I wrote about in post #202 is really pretty good. Before you read the article that Egon posted from The Guardian you could see the following to get an idea which way the newspaper leans, and how far.

The data based projections that I have seen "on line" have the global temperature change due to mans contributions to the planet at such a small level as to be totally consumed by the error bars.

With that sort of "conjecturing", it will be impossible to determine if ANYTHING we do to influence global climate makes any difference at all.

Think on that. Tens of TRILLIONS of dollars spent on well meaning but ineffective programs around the globe, and the results are lost in the noise. Worse, nothing may change, trends may continue, then what? Blame it on that we ALL didn't start early enough. (All the while some are not doing anything in spite of what they spout.)

It can be so frustrating being a human being. Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.
