A 16 degree sloped driveway that's in the shade all winter?

Yeah, you need chains.

Doesn't matter what tractor you get, or what tires are on it.

If the OP doesn't use chains this coming winter, he will the following one..

Chains it is. I just need to find the ones that don't hurt the new asphalt. The hunt is on.

Probably 2-link latter chains on cold asphalt will be the most forgiving.

There are numerous threads on these forums about chains and the results people have had with them, one is;

I don't know if the link to this thread will work, if not it is in'
Tractor projects and tasks,
snow removal,
tire chains.

The Aquiline, TRYGG, or OFA's while they look to be so aggressive that people assume that they will tear up driveways because of their grip and preventing wheel spin they are actually easier on the driveway then other styles.

nope my link attempt didn't work.

Most storms, and maybe even most years, you might get away with not needing chains, depending on rear weight (ballast) and conditions.

...but there will be that storm where it rains on a cold bare driveway surface and turns it into a bobsled run. = You need chains.

As others have said, chains (usually) won't leave marks unless you spin the tires on the pavement.
[....and so what if does: "OMG! The driveway has a mark on it! How embarrassing!! The shame!! What will the neighbors say!! We have to move!" ]

Snowblower shouldn't leave marks.

Check how much clearance you have between top and inside side wall of tire with the fenders (or anything else) for mounting chains. You'd hate to realize you need spacers the night before the big storm.

Coby is right. Not only that, if you do have a mark, new asphalt repairs pretty easily. A weed-burner torch, some bagged asphalt and a hand tamper will do wonders. Just don't "burn" the asphalt.

Tire chains don’t hurt asphalt. Careless tractor operators damage asphalt.

That depends on how you are moving snow. Bucket, blade or snowblower. You are less apt to scratch pavement if you snow blow but if you push it it's a whole other ball game. At some point no matter how careful one is, if you need to push snow back or move banking's with a plow or bucket you are more than likely going to scratch it here and there no matter how careful you are..
