I bought the 73” WG for utility tractors for my small tractor (55 hp) to get the bigger 42”+ jaw opening for brush and tree limbs.

My other 84” grapple, on my New Holland, only opens to about 34”

Without a doubt for handling brush a wider jaw opening is an advantage. Does not matter for rocks or logs usually. You can increase efficiency somewhat for brush handling by technique by coming down on top of the brush and smashing it down. But still wider opening is better usually.

now you have me wondering if I should go with the 54. my front tire width is 63 so even with the 60 i dont cover my tracks. the 54 would be that much more maneuverable in the woods

I am just hoping i have enough traction with R4's to put all the tines in the ground and rip out roots. ted says in his videos that the single lid opens 5 inches more than the dual lid but the specs say 37 inches for both the single and dual lid.

Yep. I do that as well James.

Trimmed some live oak trees last week and got everything, to the burn pile, in two trips.

two cab tractors, which one is your weekend ride??

I had enough trouble justifying one cab tractor to my wife but I am a weekend warrior with no farm just 8 acres of woods to look after

Well, lets put it this way. I have never wished for a wider grapple. Never. I have wished for a narrower grapple at times. Of course that isn't really much of a possibility with SSQA.

I like it and had roughly the same idea. Some way to pinch saplings between two tines but unlike you I just kicked the idea around in my head. I think I have the 60' ? single lid on my Kioti DK40. I have one of those brush grubbers that have two spiked pads and a spring scissor mechanism. It works about 90% of the time but without a helper :wave: the constant on and off the tractor does me in about 20 minutes into he job. I missed the thread first time but often go long periods of not being on TBN

Well it is possible, this one is 44 inches wide:

And sometimes you only need two tines:

It is very cool for pulling grape vines out of trees too. You know the ones, that you just don't have the strength to pull hard enough to get them out... Well your tractor has the strength...
