Why do people not want to work?

There are rare exceptions but it isn't human nature to do more than necessary for getting by. Working to accomplish what we want from life must be taught and is an ongoing day to day process. The same is true for milking the system and something for nothing,it is far too often taught to many from the day they are born. I was no exception. If mom had gave me a choice I would have fished and hunted rather than helping her on the farm. To be honest,considering the availability of welfare,I'd still need an a** wupping now to make me hoe cotton in the Tx summer.
I never rose to great heights but my son own's a succesful business and daughter is a public school administrator. They in turn raised a teacher,a pharmacist,a firefighter,a class valedictorian that is still in school,a boy that is still in high school,own's a flock of sheep and is working an outdoor summer job in 95-101f daily temperatures. To my knowledge,noone above ever received food stamps or welfare. I want to make it clear that without mom's determination and prodding,I very well might have lived off welfare my intire life and likely taught my kids to do the same.

I spent 50 odd years working more days and hours than I can count and I am over it.
That is my excuse.

A large part of the work force age group is getting free money, free food, free cell service, and free healthcare...why should they work or even look for a job when many of them come from generations that have learned to take advantage of the system(s)...?

Quite many rich people are very lucky with theyr parent's, not to much hard work.

And hard work alone doesn't give much, skills, network, education and self esteem counts for much more than the hours you put in.

I'm confused. How might one aquire skills,network and education without working for them?

The point is quite simple, people that get rich by them selves must have the right personality, you must be smart, not always as in high IQ but business smart. Equal possibilities for all are one of the lies young people hear all the time and that makes a lot of stress and destroys the self esteem as many never achieve what they hope for and are hit the wall before they are 20 years old. But I see that it's difficult to give people a realistic feedback on skills and IQ.

But make healthy people to work for the welfare mony does work fine, if they has to work 7.5 h five days a week for the same money as if they sitt at home makes regular work much more attractive. Here in Norway this is mandatory for all healthy people under 30 which are on basic wellfare, this can also be work training in ordinary workplaces or in some cases to finish school so they have a education to show, it makes living on welfare not so attractive.

The work training can work real good, many has never had the chance to show them selves in job, an a good reference from such training opens doors.
