This is the first time I have dealt with Hydraulics so please bear with me. I've owned this 1510 with FEL, 4x4 and Power Steering for about a year now. While cleaning out a steer pen with the FEL my brother noticed the hydraulic pump leaking against the engine block. You can see in the picture where it is squirting out (circled in yellow).

Before I start taking it apart I would like to get some recommendations or known tips to fix this leak. Thanks for the help!

Chris

I’ll follow along on this one as I don’t have your specific answer. However, based on the brazing at the bottom of the pump you may not find what you expect!! AKA - previous owner’s “creative” repairs

The brazing looks to be on a banjo fitting that attaches to the bottom. From the looks of it, I'd guess it would be a shaft seal between the pump and the gear drive. There should be an exploded view online somewhere that will make thing clearer.

It looks like you are missing at least one bolt. There should be 3 attaching the fitting that's leaking. Maybe that's what caused the leak? From the look of the leak, I would suspect the fitting itself is damaged now.

Are you talking about the fitting that is circled in yellow? Where would I find an exploded view/schematic?

Thanks

That's the one I am talking about. I don't have a source on exploded view. Should be one in a parts book. Your local dealer might be able to show you the details.

If you did not remove a bolt, then I am convinced that is what happened.

The leak is actually the Priority Flow Control Valve and where it meets the hydraulic pump. Apparently this is a common issue over time with the o rings and the alignment of the PFCV to the pump. After reviewing some schematics I am going to attempt to remove the PFCV and replace the O ring. I値l let you know how it goes.

Is it missing just 1 bolt or 2? Hopefully the threads are still good.

It doesn稚 appear to be missing any bolts. I looked all over after you mentioned that.

There should be bolt for each arrow. I only see one in the picture. Hopefully this helps.

So I think you need to look up a 1710 on Messicks, because I didn't see the diverter under the 1510 schematics.

According to the picture, #7 and #6 are O-rings. #3 is an adapter that goes onto the pump, and the #2 slips inside of that. It looks like it is a slip joint design for tolerance stack up i'm sure. The #15 bolt only shows QT 1 which is odd. My guess your #6 o-ring is leaking. But while in there, replace them all.

#6 O-RING,2.4mm Thk x 9.8mm ID
#7 O-RING,2.4mm Thk x 19.8mm ID, 90 Duro

Thanks for the info. I found this link as well that basically says the same thing:

I double, and tripple, checked. There is no bolt on that side. There are the 2 you can see in the photo and one on the backside for a total of 3. However there is no hole on the front side for a fourth bolt.

Just about all these 1000 series Ford's have a 3 bolt flange on the pumps. My 1600 and 1700 were the same way.

Most of the flanges like that I have seen have three bolts. Looking at the shape of the pump and when I zoomed in, it appears as if a bolt is missing. I am glad you figured it out and will get it going again soon.
