What's happened to Craigslist?

You can filter out multiple listings, but CL has just become an overall PITA to use so I don't go there much anymore. We still have our tried and true "Uncle Henry's", which has been around since before the internet; and often the prices of items are more reasonable. A lot of people apparently have gone to FB Marketplace, but that's another fiasco that I've gotten away from.

The search function on Facebook Marketplace is horrible. I searched for "loader tractor" and got 50 riding mowers (which didn't have the word "loader" anywhere in their ads) and ladies swimsuits in with a bunch of non-loader tractors.
Also, you can't exclude words (on CL you can put a minus sign to exclude words from your search results).

Market place is much better than CL and other smaller localized sites. There’s almost no scams and they have a filter to prevent duplicate adds. Now if they’d take away the pre select messages and make you type your own it would be way better. The search function could be improved but the other sites aren’t any better.

I tried FB Market. Had twice as many flakes respond as I've had on CL.

I have always disliked ads with insulting conditions but I think I'm starting to understand them.

I added a paragraph to my ad saying if you aren't mechanically inclined or resourceful enough to look up parts this is not the mower you are looking for. Not sure if I will ever sell it but the flakey emails have stopped.

I've had an immense amount of success and fun on Craigslist in Portland, Oregon and my home in SC. I'm the type of guy that researches a product to a ridiculous level, but when I'm ready to pull the trigger, I pull the trigger!

(2) things that I still chuckle at: I offered to pay $1200 cash for a cello in Portland back in 2010. I had a nice email/phone conversation with the seller, but he would not sell me the cello without talking to my supervisor or another reliable party because "nobody calls and offers the asking price!" :laughing: You may think someone is scamming you, but always remember that there are oddballs out there, like me, who don't tire kick... I guarantee he took a loss on that deal.

I just offered a guy full asking price for a military trailer back home in SC. Explained that I can't call because I'm overseas, which I'm sure he thought was a scam. Bless my Southern brother's hearts, but in my area, we think everyone is out to screw us. Even after giving multiple phone numbers and telling him where I live, nothing. The trailer is, and has been, on C-list ever since...

My biggest issue with FB market place is how they sort the ads.

I like to look in "garden" section or "tools" section under the "home and garden" category

C-list would always sort by date.....newest listings first if you didnt use "search" function. And even if you used search on C-list....default was by relevance...but you could still switch back to "date".

I just pulled up garden section in FB market place.....First 12 listings...

3. about a day ago
4. 18 hrs ago
5. 2 days ago
6. about a day ago
7. 9 hrs ago
8. 16 hrs ago
9. 10 hrs ago

I hate that. I like to browse C-list daily or so. So I know when I scroll down and get back to stuff I saw yesterday, I am done and have seen all the new listings.

Why FB wont sort, or give option to sort is beyond me. As a seller.....how do you know if your ad is gonna be one of the ones less than a day old and clear at the bottom? Or why some get lucky and have posts over a week old sitting at spot #2?

If dealing with all the CL mess being discussed isn't bad enough,the people in the help section go out of their way to be offensive to people asking for help.

It's on the left side of the web version under the distance you want to search, change from "Revelance" to "Newest" and it should sort by date.
