I have a Lesco commercial walk behind (purchased new) with a Kawasaki 15hp 2 cylinder engine. Fired it up a couple days ago and it was running on one cylinder.
Seems a mouse made a condo between my cylinders and packed it full of grass and acorns. How did I find out? It chewed one of my plug wires in half.

I replaced both coils a couple year back so I was not thrilled when I found out what happened to one of my coils.
Picked up a replacement and removed the potted plug wire from the coil and will try putting a new wire in , potting it and keep for a spare.

Too bad they do not make land mines for mice.............

Don't know for how long, or how, you store your engine powered equipment.
For storage I add a packet or two of mouse poison to every machine stored for more than 2 months.

At least a couple barn cats. My two are even starting to work on the pocket gophers now.

Mouse poison actualy attracts mice so dont put it in your equipment or shed. Stick it ouside where pets cant get it.

I find the "Real Kill" brand of glue traps work very well.

During the winter I place moth balls on the 4 wheeler and zero turn. Have had no problems even though I do have mice.

I think I need a mixture of lethal obstacles and snacks.

I've trapped them in nearly every way and position possible. I'm not so sure Minnie didn't set Mickey up for this one.

"The black mamba inhabits a wide range in Sub-Saharan Africa; its range includes Burkina Faso, Cameroon Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Mozambique, Swaziland, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, and Angola."

I don't see either Texas or Virginia listed there. Looks like what some people call a Chicken Snake. I hate 'em all though. I've found a couple in my pond, but they don't seem to eat my Goldfish. I have mice. I have Moles. I have other small things, so I don't know what the snakes eat. I'm guessing people who can't afford to hire their own to present their case.

Black rat snake I believe. Totally harmless (except to things I don't want around here) and welcome to stay as long as he doesn't scare my wife again!

Snakes aren't a good deterent for mice in lawn mowers because...
My son-in-law went to borrow my zero turn one day, it started fine and backed out of the barn then stalled and would not restart. I heard the silence and went to investigate. We were giving it a good look over when we noticed lots of grass and ?insulation? poking out of places they shouldn't be. After taking off the covers and fenders, etc, we discovered that mice had set up a home all throughout the engine. But the problem with the mower was that a black snake (aka chicken snake, aka rat snake) got it's body got between the gears; cutting it into three big pieces. After cleaning everything out, it started up fine.
I have two cats and they bring home lots of presents for us (My wife thinks its because they don't believe we know how to hunt since we feed them dry food). But there are probably just too many rodents for two cats.

only an expert can tell for sure though!. there are wacky people in the world that bring in non-native species of all kinds for some odd reasons. for instance, you are allowed to keep Lions in Texas, they are not native to the U.S...
