Hi everyone, Ive got a Jinmah 254 which my nephew managed to knock a tooth of 3rd gear or at least I think that痴 what happened as it makes a terrible clunking sound when in that gear and in any range medium or low. I want to pull the gearbox down myself and have a look at it so any advice at all would be appreciated. Also does anyone no how I could get a ser ice manual for it. Thanks in advance

Well unfortunately tractor transmission work usually equals splitting the tractor in two. You can pull the top off the gearbox very easilly. This should allow you to see exactly what is broken...

if service manuals do not exist, that means there is no warranty whatsoever on the tractors!. you buy it, and good luck, if it breaks down, just buy a new one!. does that make sense?.. basically, that makes it a throwaway tractor!..

Chinese tractors generally come with a parts manual (that usually means Every part in the tractor) with exploded views of each assembly. Also an operators manual with many basic service procedures like clutch adjustment and things like setting up the 3 point settings and others.
Going on year 26 with my (throw away) tractor.
It gets used Way more than the jd 550 dozer
Have a family friend that has over 15 years on his Jinma 284 and also uses it summer and winter and has been Very happy with it.
Parts have been readily available when needed -and at a reasonable price for our tractors.

my guess is Affordable has the parts diagrams (parts manual) and some torque specs to.

without a service manual, you'll be guessing on a lot of things that are not covered in the operators manual..

ﾀ few year ago the two front axle broke (One week interval of each other). I have, like most owner of a Chinese tractor, only a part book. I ordered the parts and did the jod. The new parts wasn't the same as there where a new design and I had to make shims gasket to reach the proper backlash.
This is just an example how someone with just common sense and knowing how mechanical component should work. These tractors aren't rocket science with their 40 years old desing.
If someone having a car and don't even know how to change oil in it, he should reconsider having a Chinese tractor.
I am probably opening a can of worms saying this but we can see threads on forums with very basic mechanical questions asked.
Not saying opening a transmission is a basic job, sure not.
That what forums are for, helping each other.

Jacques that is pretymuch spot on! There are people who are unwilling to even try to learn these skills. Then there are those who are willing to try and ask questions to make sure they are headed in the right direction. Those people are the reason I take the time to answer questions...
