Thank You for growing the poppies.
Lou

You're welcome Lou. They are blood red...

I might just get some nicer flags put out there too if enough poppies bloom.
Should make for a nice picture looking down into the collards and potatoes.

And then I think of Gettysburg. They'd sure need a lot of poppies there.

I wonder what I could plant to give honor to all the relatives of mine that went into the ovens in Belzec in 1942.
I'm not Jewish so I don't know the tradition. I wonder if there is a type of flower, probably could google that.
Until then, I think these red poppies will do fine. So many innocents die in war, so many heroes die
to keep us free. Too many poppies...

"... So many innocents die in war, so many heroes die to keep us free. Too many poppies..."- Drew- I am certainly no expert on Judaism nor honoring the Holocaust victims. I know there are special prayers and services and Yurzite(sp?) Candles lit during the High Holidays. In my community it was customary to plant a tree in ****** commemorating major life events: Plant Trees through Jewish National Fund. In Idaho near Boise there is a field planted with thousands of daffodils to commemorate victims of the Holocaust. I will do a little research too.

There were 29 pages of dead Brumbergs recorded in the Nazis/SS records.

Didn't take as long as I thought it would take to finish the headboard. It isn't a big piece, but my arm and hand is tired. Lots of rubbing. Wifey is more than happy with it, so that's what matters. She said it was exactly what she envisioned.

I apparently made it look to easy....now I have another project...a matching quilt rack for the foot of the bed.:D

Ted- Nice finish work. Good luck with the quilt rack. Life is usually good when the Wife is happy. ;):D

A day spent puttering around here.

According to hummingbird sightings they are traveling up the CT River Valley in MA. We are 2 - 3 weeks behind the Valley as to climate/weather.

Ted, seriously nice, I can feel those smooth soft edges from here.

beat personal best on collard picking. Previously 151 pounds by three people.
Today one other very motivated lady and I were determined to do a row apiece.
And we did, 205 pounds of collards picked in total.
Plus another twenty pounds I took to the office of the local county ag agent for his staff.
Lady in front said she loved collards and was eyeing the box in case her boss didn't get back.
All good.

thanks Jay.
from what I read, planting a tree is appropriate for Jews but they actually somewhat frown on planting flowers, something going back forever and ever apparently, though the country national flower is a cyclamen. I'm sticking with the poppies.

still have more to do but the needle is on E. In fact the little red light is flashing.
I think it says Ice Cream. ;)

"..... I'm sticking with the poppies."- Drew You are good to go in my "book" with perennial flowers, and thank you for honoring those that history would like to forget and helping to feed people who w/o people like you would go hungry. I had no clue as to ******'s national flower..

You deserve a big bowl of ice cream.

There were 29 pages of dead Brumbergs recorded in the Nazis/SS records.

wow. I had two pages, strange last name, and half were from out of the area my grandfather originally came from.
But the ones that were located at the nearest city, sure was spooky seeing your unusual name listed again and again.
One of the camps that had a record of zero survivors, they took it all down in 1943.

Yes, I saw the daffodils, but thought they were originally intended for children victims only.
Thankfully I have plenty of daffodils.

A terrible part of our common history. None of us can escape it.
And for sure, let's make sure it doesn't happen again.
Ethnic cleansing can't be tolerated anywhere. We give up our humanity
if we allow it.

last cup of coffee for day sure tastes good, consumed sitting down. Half decaf, that's working out ok for me.

Ted, do you have an inset panel for surge protected AC, DC, wifi, USB, phone charger and perhaps a rotatable small screen wired into your outdoor cameras?
For those what's that noise responses that don't require getting up... Stage 2 for the tech, wood sure looks nice. Don't hit your head on it.

Drew- Brumberg/Bromberg was a common name in Europe. There are several bronze plaques on Ellis Island dedicated to "Brumbergs" who passed by The Statue of Liberty coming to America. One of those plaques was dedicated to/by my family.

Visiting Ellis Island or the other ports of USA entry should be required of all citizens. The old newspapers hanging on the walls of the Ellis Island Museum could be mistaken for more recent news and social media publications in the here and now.

My Father who fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received a "V" Bronze Star was convinced to his dying day that the USA and its allies won because of our diversity of ideas and perspectives; not our homogeneity. He rarely spoke about combat; but he often spoke about the challenges of integration within the military before the shells started flying and soldiers dying overseas. He had an "H" on his dogtags. H = Hebroid/Hebrew depending on belief system.

History will repeat itself if we allow it.
