As my dad got older he slept a lot and I once asked him why. He said when he dreams he is young and when he wakes up he is old and he would rather be young. Made sense.

Wife and I have been together 47 years now. She was very close to her Dad...a great guy and he liked me a lot. Wife's parents passed about 10 years ago.
A few years ago her Dad appeared to me in a dream, saying "when you wake up, tell this story to her (my wife), it happened years before you met, when she was a kid.
She helped me fix our Zenith TV, it had no sound, speaker was bad, so...(dream continued, her Dad giving exact details of where they got a replacement speaker, the type, etc.).
When I awoke I told wife the story...it was exact to the last detail...she cried... I held her. How could I have possibly have known? In the dream...he was smiling.

Silly guy, dreams aren't real. :D

Thanks for telling us.

On dreams---------

I'd often dream of events that occurred during the day, like water ski jumping or slalom, driving my sports car, landing my plane or some other task.
In those dreams I'd practice whatever task I'd been doing during the day.
Many times I'd find next day that I had perfected my technique in that dream.

LOL, today they have simulators to practice many tasks, I had my own!
Basically what occurred was that I'd be thinking of the task as I dozed off and the thoughts carried over in a dream.

I read somewhere that dreams only last a few seconds. I've watched my dog dream. His for sure only last a few seconds. But a minute later he may dream again.

I saw an article once that said if you put the time span of the earth on a year long calendar the man has only been here the last 30 seconds of December 31st.

I used to keep a pad of paper and pen next to the bed and when I would wake up I would jot down a quick note about whatever genius idea I was dreaming about. Trouble was none them ever made sense the next morning. Just a bunch of jibberish.

I'm sure many will take offense to this post but it needs to be said. Current medications are keeping folks alive well beyond their expiration date. What is your game plan? Hopefully it is not to expect your children to change your diapers and bath you. Adult heath care is ridiculously expensive and in-spite of your believe you are better than everyone you will likely be enrolled in Medicaid when your meager savings are exhausted. My MIL went through $500K in 8-years. So lets hear it, a heavy rock and a deep lake or you just planning on being a burden on those you claim to love? What irritates me most is believers in divine salvation are the most scared of dying. No one gets out alive, so lets hear it.

Very interesting thread. I kinda agree what my brother said. If he poops his pants three days in a row he is done.

Dignity. Yesterday I was in the Veterinary office - making an appointment for my puppy. Andrew - an old farmer, came in and got more "cow medicine". It's branding & inoculation time for the cattle ranchers around here. He had on his Mucks and a dirty set of bibs. Obviously right in the middle of doing both.
He got his bottle of medication and left. One of the counter girls mentioned how he smelled and was dressed.

I mentioned to her that she must be new to the Vet's office. "Yes, and I drive all the way from the big city to be here".

Andrew had more "dignity" on the sole of his left boot than this girl will ever obtain.

From the big city says it all.. She wouldn't last an hour on the farm..

A hard days work on the farm would be an eye-opening experience for 'big city' girl. Might gain a whole new perspective and a little more respect for guys like Andrew and my father-in-law, who don't think twice about going to town in dirty coveralls and barn boots...

When my daughter was in grade two or three I picked her up every day from the private all girls schools she attended.

Parents were welcome to come into the school and wait outside the classrooms although most stayed in their cars.

I was recognized by most the teachers and staff, but on one occasion another parent must have judged me by my dirty jeans and work boots and alerted someone as the PA system paged “Mr Cardinal” which was the lockdown/intruder code word.

The situation was quickly defused but.......

Makes me wonder. Do city folks really have any idea where their food comes from. There can be such a disparity of cultures and they can both live so near to each other.

And if he has a larger farm with a fair number of vet calls, there is a good chance that he pays more than her annual salary in vet bills...

A few years back my wife and I went to a pot luck gathering put on annually by a friend. My wife made some ice cream and had gotten the milk from a local dairy. She was telling a friend there how she cooked the milk into a custard like mix to make the ice cream.

While in line to get a plate of food I overheard a youngster say to his friend, "Don't eat any of that ice cream. It's made from cows milk!"

I was checking out of a grocery store one time and pretty much I cook from scratch so I had only vegetables, fruit and meat in my cart. The small family behind me had only boxed or prepared food in their cart. One of the kids asked me why I did not get anything to eat.
:confused3:
