I have a M7040 with a LA 1153 loader. I noticed that the joystick felt rough in the raise position and the raise function is a little slow. I called the dealer and they suspected a bad cable. I dug out the ole spray lube and did the exposed ends of the cables and took the boot of the joystick and sprayed the three plungers there. ( Only two of the three plungers move during loader control and I'm not sure what the third plunger is for) Anyway after some use the roughness went away but I still find the raise function to be slow. I always found the hydraulics on this tractor slow as I have a 9' powerangle snowblade mounted on the front so that's a lot of weight on a loader of this size but it now feels a bit slower than it was before. Is it possible that I could have a cable that isn't travelling far enough to allow full hydraulic flow? Is there any adjustments that can be done? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You can shorten (or Lengthen) the cable at the control valve. loosen the jam nuts on the cable outer sheath... easy to figure out once you look at it.
Problem is that you may have a few busted strands in the inner cable making it too long, short term fix, (if that is the problem) shorten that cable at the adjustment... Problem is IF the cable has some broken strands, it's going to bust eventually.
You can have new custom cables built at an industrial supply shop, much better built, stronger and at about 1/3 the cost of dealer supplied...I replaced both of mine several years ago, big difference in operation. KennyV

Thanks Kenny
I'll take a closer look at the cables. With the tractor only a couple of years old and 200 hours on it and stored indoors during the winter it seems kind of premature for a cable to fail...and of course warranty expired last December.

Hello r40kh. I am having the exact problem you described with the loader control on my 7040. The tractor is a 2 1/2 years old and has about 210 hrs on it. I was wondering if you could tell me if you ever solved the problem and what was causing the issue.

I’m having trouble with mine too. It’s on the M6060. When I try to lower the lift arms it go very slow until, it “snaps” and then speeds up lowering. I’m puzzled by it. Feels like a float lock snap. Any thoughts? Thanks

This page is from the M7040 loader WSM

It is not much but perhaps a cable adjustment or at least check is warranted.

Thank you Dave. It’s a frustrating issue for me. I’m thinking it something simple, related possibly to the “lock” slide. I removed the joystick boot, and cab
See grooves on the three pistons, and the slide lock, had corresponding half moons. I could not move the slide to engage, and take it out of lock or unlock mode. My loader is a L1154.

Thank you again

If it were the lock, I think it would be obvious and not produce the symptoms you have.

Ok, thanks Dave. Do you know the purpose of the lock?

Thank you Dave. I can’t get mine to engage in lockout, or it goes into lockout when I don’t want that mode. I think the loud snap is from me forcing it out of lockout with pressure on the joy stick. When that happens the bucket lower as I think it should.

If you are the usual cautious owner, then try and get rid of the parts making up the lock.

Thanks Dave

I’ll have to try and do that. I was also thinking the “snap” I’m feeling and hearing is engaging the float mode?im also going to check the cable connections from the joystick, to the actual valve along side the tractor frame. Thanks again for your suggestions.
