I知 thinking about a new truck. Not to use as a car, an actual truck. I知 considering a 4x4 base model, regular cab 8 foot bed, no power windows nothing but a/t v6. Color, not an issue. I can buy the Ford work truck model for $31000, the Ford just under $27000. Don稚 get me wrong, I値l keep it nice, but it will get used.
Which would you buy?
Why?

They both have good points Ford great ride hard working truck Dodge handles better rides rougher stays quiet in cab with age Ford not so quiet. I believe Ford has greater hauling capacity. We own both cannot go wrong either way

Get one of each.

Sell the one you like the least.

I was a life long Dodge man, up until about 2000. Now I wouldn't take one for free. We just got in a handful of new company work vans this year that have confirmed I still wouldn't take a Dodge for free.

Bought my Superduty Ford brand new in 2012. So far, I'm pretty happy with it. No breakdowns, squeaks or noises. It's a real truck, and I treat it like one. Rides rougher than the Chevy's and Dodges (that's what the guys tell me that have them, and ride in mine). But rides like a Cadillac compared to my old '74 3/4 ton Dodge. But I don't give a squat about "ride". It's work I care about.

Buy what makes you happy.

If you want a real work truck you need 6 wheels and a flat bed or dump bed. I’d probably take a new dodge over a new ford but I haven’t done a lot of research since I never intended on buying a new truck. On the age trucks I buy I think Chevy is the best.

I've had Chevy, Ford & now Ram. Liked them all. Each has its good points. I just love my new Ram 2500 series Power Wagon( Taco Wagon ).

If vehicles rust in your area, get the Ford, it is aluminum. We have a couple of lower optioned Rams at work, in the base model they have plenty of payload but not if they are optioned heavy. I just bought a Ford a year and a half ago and like it. Both are nice trucks.

I would accept the fact you will probably get power windows and locks whether you want them or not.

When I was looking for a new work truck, my requirements where an 8 foot bed and an extra cab to store my tools behind the seat. It was very hard finding this combination at the dealers, they all have the short beds, but very few have the 8 foot bed. Then I looked at who had the better fuel mileage, and the best price. Ford F150XL with the 5.0 V8 gas engine stood out for me as the best choice for a work truck. Prices where over $30,000 at some dealers, my local dealer in Tyler came down to $28,000 and wouldn't come any lower so I looked in the Dallas area where they have high volume dealers that move a lot more vehicles then anybody else an was able to get it for $24,000. It was an hour drive each way to get there, and they played the usual games with trade in value, then adding extras to the cost of the truck at the last minute, but I was there late on a Saturday, and if they wanted to make the deal, they had to agree to our terms, which they eventually did. It's just annoying to a have to play those games.

I'm at 90,000 miles so far and my only issue has been replacing the alternator, but my AC isn't cooling like it used to, so that's going to get fixed pretty soon.

If you where looking for diesel, a very good friend of mine owns a crane company in three states and was on the TV show Mythbusters with his cranes. He has 20 work trucks, and went from Ford about ten years ago when he said that he knew they where bad, but had no idea that they would be that bad. He got rid of those trucks and bought all Dodge work trucks. They didn't hold up very well and he went back to Ford a couple years ago, and really likes these newer models.

around here the only dodge that isn't rusty is still on the dealer lot as a new truck. Why dodges rust faster than ford or chevy I can't say, but they do.

Also the seem to chew up front end parts at a much higher rate than the other brands.

I also now have ford chevy and dodge...

Over the years, the most reliable best trucks I've owned, have been Chevys and that's why I bought a new Silverado a few month ago.

I bought a truck just like you want, although it does have a few more options than you mentioned. Like I wouldn't have another full size truck with a V6, I no longer want to crank up my windows. I don't want a truck with out a limited slip rear axle and 4wd if I'm going to work it.

Anyway, mine has a few options on it and I bought it for 29K, it's a very nice "work horse" for those dollars!

I have bought two new Ford 150's; a 1993 and a 2002 King Ranch. We get the Ford "X plan", so I get a pretty good deal on a truck; my 2002 sticker was 38K; got it for 32. Tried to buy a Ford SUV about 4 years ago on the same plan, but they couldn't...or wouldn't...give me much of a price break. Excuse? They make a lot more money on a truck than on a SUV so they can knock a lot of the price of a truck and still make money. I understand the price is actually set by the Ford Company instead of the dealer though. In any case, ended up buying a Mazda CX 5 instead. Still have my King Ranch, and love it.

You didn't specify how much weight you might be hauling and that makes a difference. Are you talking a half ton, 3/4 ton?, 1 ton? A V6 in a 3/4 ton Ford??

I have a Dodge/Cummins dually with manual transmission for my heavy hauling needs. But I wanted a better-riding, more nimble truck for day-to-day driving and hauling. So when I was truck shopping I was amazed at the difference in payload in stock trucks. Most of the half-ton Dodges the payload was only about 900 pounds according to the door sticker. That meant once I loaded my quad and my camping gear I would already be over the truck's rated capacity. But they sure had a nice soft, smooth ride!
I ended up with a Ford F150. Payload according to the door sticker is 1937 pounds - a thousand pounds more than the Dodge. And that's stock, without the heavy payload package. My understanding is that the 3/4 ton Dodges (Rams?) now have coil spring suspension in the rear for better ride...big topic of discussion on the truck camper forums because of sway problems due to the soft springs.

I just looked at one of our Rams at work, it has a payload of 1700 lbs. That's a V6, 4x4, quad cab, AC, power windows and locks. A regular cab would have a little bit more. My newer F150 is 1940 lbs of payload, that's a XLT, supercab, 4x4.

Why not a thorough test drive of both (and any others you might consider), and buy the one you like best?

Opinions are fun & interesting, but offer nothing in regard to what you need or like.

Choosing a new truck is a really personal thing, different brands are so different in a lot of ways, I buy whatever I'm most comfortable in. I have bought mostly Ford's because they are the most comfortable to me, my brother buys Dodge and another buys Chevy. If I was in the market for a new truck I would not cross Chevy off the list until I spent some time looking at one. Dodge's don't seem last long with the salt they cover the roads with here.

With that said, the Ford rusts at the cab corners and fenders, the Dodge rusts the body quickly and the GM rusts at the rockers..

Owned both one is not better than the other IMHO.

I've also noticed that the Dodge trucks around here seem to almost attract rust. Then there's the Fiat thing.
