Any thoughts on the Mule SX 4x4 -vs- the Mule 4010 4x4?

I think I like the idea of the smaller / narrower Mule SX, but maybe I'm missing something?

I understand about just having one fuel source for filling it up, but in all reality, it's nothing to toss a five gallon fuel can in the back of my truck and fill it up when I fill up my truck. The Mule doesn't use very much fuel, so it's not a big deal. I also have chain saws, a log splitter, a generator, weed eater and lawn mower that run off of gasoline. I can't imagine not having something that runs off of gasoline and diesel, so having both fuels available isn't much of an option.

We have two 610 mules in addition to our 3010 trans. Super handy and more maneuverable. Just a little bigger than a quad. They bog a little with 2 people going up hill but always make it. The bed size is a little limiting. We love them on our farm. Most of the time you have one person with some tools or gas and they work great. from you op it sounds like it would work fine.
No matter what you get a good windshield and top are a must.

Just to add to your confusion, I think for about the price of the 4010 you could get a Kubota RTV 500. About the same size as the small Kawasaki but much tougher rig. That's the last one we bought.

Gasser starts easier in cold weather and warms up faster for warmth from the heater. Costs less up front. Cheaper to service through it's entire operational life.

We are looking at a Deere 2020A 4X4 gas with a cab for transportation and hauling tools or materials in the zone 2 and zone 3 areas at work. Will miss the four seater capability but the cargo box has the size and capacity of a 3/4 ton short box pickup plus it will dump.

We just bought the RVT500 on Saturday. They actually had a Mule 4010 next to it. Sat in the Mule, but didn't test-drive it.

I wanted something like a golf-cart with a box on the back.

I like the idea of EFI & hydrostatic transmission.

I bought a 4010 SE last June, got 93 hrs on it. It's gas and does what I need. I liked that it has power steering,a roof, and headache rack. It has a large cargo box too, a lot of UTVs have small ones. I am going to install electric dump and a winch soon. Many people use them like an atv and then complain after they tear them up. Mules aren't recreational vehicles, they're utility work vehicles. My neighbor that I work for has a an old 6X4 diesel gator and a Kubota RTV 1100 (cab,heat, and a/c NICE!). The Kubota is diesel and burns fuel pretty quickly when doing a lot of slow driving and pulling hay trailers. The gator is a lot of fun to drive, has 3 cyl. Yanmar and gets excellent fuel economy. Freeze your butt off in winter and burn up in summer(no sun roof).

My almost twenty year old Diesel Mule probably starts faster than a gasser even in extreme cold as long as you let the glow plugs do their thing. And when warm, you almost can't touch that starter fast enough. No messing around with a stupid choke that I really hate.

My Diesel vribrates terribly at idle, and I don't like stopping and starting it for short hops. I use my E-Gator for that, and it actually is the preffered vehicle, conditions permitting.
