Buckeye, I have our 3 credit cards setup to notify me anytime there is a charge over $50. . . .

My fraud charges were under $50 and one was for $1. Each charge was for a little bit more, like they were testing the waters.

Good morning! 24˚F heading to 53˚F sunny.

Buckeye, I'm surprised MC is not more involved in the fraud and is not working with you more.
The day before we went on vacation Discover text me at 5am and ask me if i made an online purchase, I did not and after reviewing the purchases there were thee fraudulent charges that night. They stopped the card and assured me I was not responsible. Their fraud division seems to be on top of the situation all the time. They have notified me of questionable and unauthorized charges before I ever get a statement.
It wasnt clear cut fraud, but deception. They offered a free trial which she signed up for. During checkout they said you just pay shipping, $4.95 which she agreed to. However, the "terms and conditions" say it isn't free.

The problem is somewhere she must have clicked on something about agreeeing to their terms and conditions.

When I tried it, I did not get to anything that said that, up to the submit payment link. She also ordered a 2nd product, so they pushed that after the initial free product.

When you click and read their terms and conditions, you have to cancel within 14 days or pay full price. It was not free, even though they said it was free up to 4 times before submitting the cc payment.

I did get a cancellation number, but they have already billed the 2nd shipment, but they have not shipped it.

Will check out the attorney general.

I slept a few hrs, have a terrible headache, and am staying home today.

Drinking first cup of hot coffee. -2° with mostly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 22° with cloudy skies. Sun came out yesterday. Temperature made it to 33° and some snow melted. Worked on some spring house cleaning. So I will not be stuck in the house when warmer weather gets here. Wife has OT today. But have to drive to Dr office to pick up reports for therapist. 80 mile round trip I do not like. Day will be shot by time I get home.

Weather is looking good for the weekend. 40° with rain. Then 50+° one day next week. Goodby Snow.

Prayers for everyone. We all need them. Some just to stay out of trouble.

Good Morning All.
Ron, good luck on your drive. All my doctors are at least that far away, a little closer than work.

Yep, the $1 ping, is a very common tactic, had it happen on vacation some years ago.

In years past, twice I've had fraudulent charges on my Discover Card. The first time was when someone in another Texas city charged their monthly Internet bill on my card. The second time, some years later, was when someone charged a fairly large bill at a jewelry store in New York. Each time, I just called and the Discover Card folks took it off my bill, cancelled the card, and sent me new cards with new account numbers. And they sent a letter asking me to sign if I'd be willing to testify in court, which of course I would have been glad to, if the culprit should be arrested.

In our case, my late wife and daughter in law went to a Dairy Queen on the Outer Banks of NC and bought treats, and trinkets. That night I was looking at our banking info and saw a $1 charge in Norfolk, then a later charge for stuff in NYC. Daughter-in-law had the$1 ping in Norfolk and later a $600 leather jacket in New York. We were both using VISA debit cards. They refunded the accounts within a few minutes, but they both had to get replacement cards.
The employees were Russian fall fill in help.

9°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 34° today. Be nice to be above freezing once again.

I've been hit with card theft twice, about a year-and-a-half apart. My bank caught it both times. The first time, they got me for about $1800 before it was caught. My bank and Visa took care of it. The second time, three of those $1 pings tipped them off, and the bank shut it down immediately. My Wife got a call from one of our credit cards last month asking if she'd made a purchase at a convenience store in Traverse City, MI. She laughed and told them no, she had been sitting comfortably in her sewing room all day, and that we hadn't been to MI in almost 10 years. They cancelled her card and sent a new one. Of course, credit card theft is one thing, but downright deceitful business practices like BEF is enduring deserve a solid fist through the nose.

It's a warmer 33° this morning. Yesterday was in the mid 30's and sunny most of the day. Today is going to be in the low 30's with a 90% chance of snow. They are saying we might get 1-3 inches that could mean up to a foot of snow. Looks like we have a chance of snow tell the weekend.

Didn't do much yesterday. Helped a neighbor stack wood on is deck and set in the sun and did some welding.

Not sure what I'll be doing today.

Hope everyone has a good hump day.
CWB.

18 ー below zero and we are searching for 14 above. Wind NW 14 mph. 40% chance of flurries.
Now that's weather! I once went on an overnight backpack trip when it got down to -20F. When I awoke the next morning, the inside of the tent was all frosted white, as were the tops of our sleeping bags. Scrambled eggs were on the menu for breakfast, but we couldn't eat 'em fast enough to keep 'em from freezing to our aluminum cook kit plates. I hope you stay warm in that stuff, Bill!

Our annual tanker 'safety meeting' will be over two days in the middle of April. We call it a safety meeting but mostly it is corporate BS about how they want us to act when we are on the road. Now that the family sold us out to a corporation I can just imagine how deep the BS will be. This will be my 33rd one and the BS never stops. I will go down there on the day before and grab a motel room for the two days.

I put up with 30 years of safety meetings, but only once did they last more than a few hours. That was when a contractor crossed a couple wires by mistake and sent a rocket sled down the track before it was supposed to go. He lived to tell the tale, but there was a stand down on that facility that lasted months, and every employee had to go to mandatory safety training for a couple of days. All that "training" is so when people screw up, the attorneys can't blame the managers for not teaching the workers safe practices and providing them with with the proper tools and time to do the work safely. They used to say "There is no job that can done without proper regard for safety". Toward the end of my career, we used to shorten that somewhat: "There is no job that can be done".
