Ls engine issue?

Again I hope it's okay I used this thread since I felt it was a related failure. If anyone objects I'll be happy to start a new thread in the New Holland section.

NO! I was just kidding. Personally, I am very interested in this issue as well. Please keep us posted. The topics are related. Sorry, it's hard to show expression or sarcasm in plain text.

I don't object because it ties right into the title.

Great. Now I feel like a jerk. :duh:

Sure is a lot of incorrect information on regeneration coming out. Maybe those that want to describe regeneration can start another thread.

Well, seems I'm in the same boat. XR4155HC, 8 months/32hours old. Did some loader work moving snow, then headed back to the house. Dropped the rear blade on the way back to the house. About to he garage when the motor started spewing smoke, puking oil out of the exhaust pipe, tried to throttle down but engine would not cooperate. Dealer briought me a loaner today and took mine in for repair. Preliminary diagnosis was turbo let go. Waiting for report on damage.

Sooo... The engines that have had issues are newer, and all in a colder climate? Now I'm nervous.:ashamed:

Just curious, but I am wondering if hiddenprairie with so few hours has Dino break in oil when it failed. What were your outdoor temps? For a turbo to let go most likely a material factory defect?

Do they still use dino oil? That used to be in the past, now even for breaking-in they use synthetic in cars so why not in tractors?

Has anybody been in direct contact with LS Corporate?

Will anybody be going to the show that can point them to this thread?

$$$

:)

They also very likely come from Korea with no oil in them. That would be done here and if you knew Dealers like I know Dealers :dance1:

I still think the problem is in the emissions system somewhere. I could be wrong. I could be very wrong.

And, oh yeah, a clogged exhaust system (the DPF) will smoke a turbo.

Quick

15w-40 dino oil isn't ideal but it didn't cause your problem, IMHO.

I'm still stuck on the emissions system. And maybe on it causing the turbo to commit suicide.. And I still maintain that I could be spectacularly wrong.

This is interesting to me, and should be to the rest of the Board, because those who already own, and those who might soon own, one of these tractors should know if we have to take any special care when running one in extreme cold.

Mine is a LS Mtron 1.9 turbo tier 4 2018 model year

I agree dino is not the best, but especially in the cold with a turbo. At least the dealer could have used Rotella T6 5W40 which is fully synthetic.
Not to pick on anyone, but turbos are a beast on their own, one cannot treat a turbo engine the same way as non turbo especially during warm-up and cool-down.

Well that stinks. I think you and Rusty are certainly sharing the same boat.

I'm wondering if LS got a bad lot from the supplier or something else. We probably won't know what the exact failure point is on the turbo unless the dealer takes it apart.

0F isn't extremely cold, at least for the midwest here. I run T6 and have operated it at -25F blowing snow during the last cold snap, but I wouldn't consider starting it without the plug heater. Lot's of warm up time.

Some good theories discussed and sounds like something that could possibly be dealt with with a software upgrade?

I don't get it. They know intake air temp, DPF temp, fuel temp, coolant temp (don't see an oil temp sensor). Seems like they can infer the conditions of operation if it has to do with extreme cold and not letting it regen.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone follow LS on their FaceBook page? Any discussion on this issue?

I'm not on FB, thus the reason for asking.
