New Aquiline Talon tire chains!

Resurrecting a zombie thread with an update. As of this time I was unable to locate studded diamond chains sized at 10-16.5 and went with 11mm Aquiline Talons. The Seller (Tractor Tire Chain - Aquiline Talon | Free US Shipping ) acknowledged that Aquiline had breaking problems early on but that the Talons have been redesigned and has had three years of good luck with them. We will see as a do quite a bit of snow blowing and plowing.

For the past couple years I've been running my Talon chain loose as someone here suggested, which has always been totally against my grain of thought but I have hardly any breakage now and my chains stay on straight which has always been a problem when tight. My tractor is totally useless without chains.

Any update on use? I'm considering these or the little bit lighter duty Aquiline MPC chains.

Seems like a lot of money for a lightweight chain, any update there Eric?

WoW!! Am I glad I no longer need chains. My Kubota M6040 @ 10,100# has adequate traction with R-1's. I looked at the Aquiline Talon chains for my tractor. Around $800 for a front pair - - around $1000 for a rear set. It would be cheaper to just relocate to Florida for the winter season.

R-1's are still worthless on ice. I have r-1's on my 5083E and I still chain all 4 tires for winter. I do like the idea of moving to Florida if it wasn't for the heat in the summer! I don't think I can afford a second house though!

In my case - it's plowing my driveway where I need the traction. I have a valley in my driveway. A very large field drains down onto one side of the driveway and freezes. It's never a problem with a vehicle. It can get "hairy" when plowing snow. I've learned - motor up out of the valley - over the ice - turn around and plow that short section DOWN into the valley. It's only a 150 foot section on my mile long driveway.

Otherwise - I've never needed chains to get anywhere on my 80. The snow accumulation just never gets that deep. At least, for the tractor.
