Favorite Childhood Toy

When I was ten years old all I ever wanted was to be able to legally drive and own an International Scout. My dad always considered buying one for the farm but back then they had just come out and it would have been too much of a luxury item for our needs.

We eventually owned two Ford Broncos but to this day I have never even DRIVEN a Scout.
Same here, wanted one since I was 14. Went looking a couple years ago, money in hand. Couldn't find anything for a reasonable price that wasn't a rust bucket.

Had a room mate when I was a freshman that went out and bought a Scout brand new ,345 CI V8. Got it stuck the first day he had it,rolled it the first week, he didn’t work for it and it showed !

Hands down, the Tru-Scale Scout was my favorite. My parents had a Scout and I’m sure I begged them non-stop for the toy. I ran it into the ground and found this one on eBay more recently. It was a well designed toy with a lot of functionality and well made too. What was your favorite?View attachment 587369

I’m glad you started this thread. I hadn’t even thought about Scouts in over 50 years. It’s interesting to see so many others have had experiences with them.

As for toys I didn’t have much of a childhood so I really can’t recall a favorite.

All of my 1/16 scale farm toys. I loved each and every one of them and still have them all plus a few more.

I think LEGOs were the favorite, but I remember Lincoln Logs and even an old school erector set.

Meccano but can't remember the set number but think it was a 5 or 6, later I got the gear set for it the clockwork motor followed by the electrical set with all the coils etc so you could make motors, transformers and release mechanisms.
My parents hated lego and said it was for kids who could not work out Meccano (apologies to those who like it).
Came with a horrible little screwdriver that I used to gouge lumps of flesh out of my hand with.

Summer: Our sand box was huge, approximately 20' x 4', and my brother and I spent a lot of time playing in that. We had a wide variety of small tractor and implement toys. We had 2 uncles who were farmers, and my brother and I would each pick an uncle and pretend to be them, having our own farms and areas divided for fields in the sand. We spent many days farming in that sand.
Winter: Hot Wheels was a great winter pastime. Already having a large set of our own, we also inherited a large set from older cousins. Tons of track, 2 power boosters, many loops, banked turns and curves, and a lot of worn out cars would provide weeks of fun when we were tired of sledding. I remember the purple plastic track connectors would get worn out and cracked, so we were constantly making replacements out of cereal box cardboard and tape.
Good times. Good memories.
