Ultrarunner,
Try one of these Montezuma tool boxes. They're pricey but you can easily see the tools and what's missing. I have mine mounted on my flatbed truck. The best purchase I ever made. I bought the one in the link because I needed to carry SAE and metric. If you only need metric, one of the smaller ones would work fine.

Looks like a good system... have never seen one close up.
I customized my service van many years ago when I had free run of the machine shop where I use to work...
Built shelving, added rat pack pull outs and mounted a Craftsman top tool box to the pack rat... it has worked well but 30 years ago crawling in and out of the van was no big deal... I can see where a van with head room would be like heaven...
Things I use a lot are a pull out for my Wilton Vise, Compressed Air and my 2000 Watt Inverter... it's nice to be able to thread pipe, cut, etc. at the truck for repairs...
The 1985 G20 scales over 9,000 lbs. with just the tools... and is powered by the original 305 carbureted V8... it taught me patience negotiating the steep hills in the SF Bay Area... I just drop it into low and take my time... no strain on the motor this way.
Not quite Santa but I got the keys tonight for the house I bought 4 months ago... the seller did leave behind some tools which I was not expecting... craftsman bench top metal lathe, Oxy-Acetylene Tanks and Torch, Craftsman Arc Welder, Craftsman Radial Arm Saw... so it was like Christmas... and a 54" Flatscreen TV... suppose to be working but decided against moving it...
