I never used Diesel additives until today and WOW what a difference it made in the performance.

I had already changed the oil, Oil filter, and fuel and air filter last week to see if that would help some
lacking performance. No difference. Tractor only had 300 hours on it Kubota 4060.

I did a slot of reading about diesel additives and ordered two that kept being talked about and dropped
both in the fuel tank and set off for a days work.

All I can say is I definitely could tell the difference although many people say additives are snake oil.

No I'm not going to mention what the additives were because I don't want to hear all the nay sayers scream
about this brand or that brand and what they read about them being nothing more than this or that.

Just making a point here that what I added made my tractor run a lot better. To me it seemed like it had more power
and ran quieter.

If you guys have a brand you use I'm al ears, and I will continue to add additive to mine from here on out.

I know truckers use additive pretty often and a lot of diesel pick up guys use additive so it can't all be snake oil.

I've always added Stabil white jug after diesel jelling the very first year here. I use it in the winter time. I've never noticed a decline in engine performance. So I can't say it helped it in that regard. A quart jug of Stabil goes a long way. I had to drag my generator and the wife's hair dryer all the way down my driveway. About half an hour and the fuel was OK. That's the only stuff I've ever used.

I never used additives for performance but did have an injector or two go out 3 years ago I believe. The well established shop said I needed to use Stanydyne Lubricity Formula because of the dryness of diesel today, and change fuel filters more often, like every other oil change. That was more than likely to capture water in the fuel. At the price of injectors I will follow their advice.

I've always used an additive. Mainly as an antigel plus it boosts cetane. I've used Power Service in the white bottle and Lucas with no problems.

I've used Stanadyne for 10 years or so after a fuel rod in one of my diesels stuck and the motor raised until I could cut off the fuel supply. It was recommended by the injection pump rebuilders is the reason I use that brand as well as doing some research on it. I'm sure there are other good brands as well.

I'm just wondering if the dosage amounts recommended on the bottles were followed?

I use Power Service White bottle in all my diesels, I swear that it helps keep the turbocharger in the truck cleaner and that it makes a notable difference in power and throttle response in the two tractors.

Power Service white bottle year round. Add it to 5 gallon containers when I get home with them.

I add my used (filtered) deep fryer oil to the tractor tank when ever I change fryer oil, about 2 qts.
Sounds like the OP might have a water problem for it to make that much difference.

Ha! LOL...you're kidding, right?

Never noticed a performance change with diesel additives. Only use in fuel put into the tank of our diesel generator now because it sits there so long: the white bottle PS stuff.

I don't believe in additives as a rule. But common sense tells me that the new fuel has little lubricant, and so, I add some. Mostly store bought, but also unused tranny fluid, or any other clean high quality oil.

Also, if I get into the winter with too much summer Diesel, I will add a conditioner.

Recently started using diesel additive in my 1996 cummins dodge. Before, I would get a solid 500miles/tank, but after using the additive, I'd get 550 miles per tank. No doubt the additive is adding something to the system! The cummins feels more perky too.

Same with me. Just that I use PS white bottle only in the Winter and grey bottle the rest of the year.

I've been adding the Power Service white bottle at the recommended dosage during the cold months (when it's constantly below freezing) but now after reading all these threads I'm thinking I need to ad some lubricity to my fuel. I hear people using 2 stroke oil (no dosage info), ATF ( also no dosage) and fryer oil! One article said to use 2% which would be 2.56 oz/Gal (it was referring to ATF) which would be 12 oz/ 5 gal jug (which is how I get my fuel).

So, does any oil work? UTF? 5w30? I have dribs and drizzles of various oils lying around but I'm not gonna risk my tractor using it as an oil disposal device. (there are plenty of people around here who accept used oil to fire their furnaces)

I was thinking of switching to Diesel Kleen by Power Service for summer service, and it + PS White during the winter. "Diesel Kleen can be used year-round, but it is not a diesel fuel winterizer or antigel. When winter temperatures drop below + 30ーF. use Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost (in the white bottle) to provide maximum winter protection for your diesel engine."

I also wonder if the Off-Road I buy at Shell has anti-gel in it? Not sure the clerk behind the counter will know.

I have been using PS for 20+ years. It's been at least 20+ years since I had a fuel related problem on any of my tractors (other than a cracked rubber injector return hose type thing). I use gray jug as I don't have a storage problem living down here and refueling out of sealed 55 gallon drums where I would be using the white jug and I want to ensure that my injectors stay clean. My '63 2000 has never had a wrench on the engine proper and the pump is original....about 3800 actual hours, had it for so long I don't remember when I bought it.

I remember in the 80's there was this guy pouring tranny fluid in his tank on a olg GM diesel in a suburban. Of course I had to ask him about it. He said he had 900K miles on ( one of the worst diesels ever made) and he poured in tranny fluid every third tank of fuel.

Or you could say one of the worst beefed up gas block engines running a lousy diesel top end.

There are a variety of additives with a variety of purposes.

Maybe without divulging the brand, list the information on the container as to it's purpose?
