What is an acceptable gap between the mount plate and the quick tach?

The wrench in the photograph is a 3/4 inch craftsman and there is extra room above it. So, almost 1/2 inch gap. The photograph is looking up into the slot where the pin would be when the two components are mounted.

Too much, weld a shim plate to it.

I have a newly purchased weld-on adapter plate and new weld-on skid pads. One or the other are the wrong size.

There are plenty of online images of specifications, but i could not locate any with that included an actual tape measure.

The first three photographs show the measurement of the "weld-on pads", the surface mounting area is sixteen inches.

Photographs four and five show the surface mounting area of the weld-on plate, it measures about 15 inches.

image six shows a specifications that is widely circulated on the internet and included in some other threads within this forum.

If anyone could provide a few photographs with measurements that would be appreciated. Any feedback would be appreciated as well.

The gap should be zero. The weld on plate should lay flat against the QT assembly on the 16" surface, with a slight gap at the bottom angled surface.

The weld on plate is too short. The bottom angle is hitting the QT plate causing the gap.

Some of your pictures didn't upload, but your description was good enough.

Usually the plate is too long, leaving a gap at the bottom that can be shimmed, but yours is just the opposite.

The attachment plate has to fit over the QT assembly where the arrows are, they are 16 inches apart:

I figured the "bottom flat surface" of the QT assembly was a full sixteen inches but wanted some reassurance. I have to modify and fabricate parts of two bucket assemblies and wanted them to be standard.

I have reposed the photographs so others can see the measurements I took.

Thank you for the details.

You're welcome.

Here is a drawing that shows the weld on plate:

I wonder if there is a bead of weld on the inside of the top flange of the ssqa adapter plate. That would prevent you getting the full 16". I mention that because I bought a Kubota factory loader bucket that was made that way. I had to cut the top 1/4" off the 16" tractor-side "paddles", then everything fit fine.

Definitely a bead of weld in the way. Approximately 1/2 inch wide. I attached the photograph again, the bead is clearly visible.

Also, I emailed the ebay seller and asked if this was his standard and he said it was. He has sold about 100 of these plates in the past year.

The weld bead Downsizing is talking about is not the one in your pic, he is thinking there may be one in the TOP flange , not letting the tractor side seat fully. The weld in your pic is on the bottom of the plate and don’t even appear to be touching in the pic with the wrench.

Right, the reason it is not touching is because it is in the wrong place. It is too close to the top angle. The latch plate should fit down flat where the wrench is, but it is hitting the angle that is in the wrong place:

This is the first post that I recall with the too short problem. The usual problem is the bottom angle is welded too far away, leaving a gap at the bottom:

Yes, it appears to be just over 1/2” to short. I was thinking the same thing about it always seem to be a issue with it having too much gap.

What I mentioned is another possibility that I ran into myself. Maybe the drawing below helps. There was a bead of weld inside the top flange that prevented the "paddle" from seating all the way up. Removing a small part of the paddle provided the needed clearance. The paddle profile remains unchanged and it works fine.

Of course it could be the plate is just too short.

I have had to grind out bits of weld up in the top pocket before. Most of them were "mistakes" that should have been identified at final inspection on a jig.

The weld bead is not the problem, it is in the wrong place that is causing the problem.

The plate is definitely too short.

Did the seller offer 30 day or 60 day free return shipping?

PayPal will cover up to $30 of return shipping.

^^I agree that in this case, according to the dimensions, it was welded WAY off. I would not do any grinding on the good part to adapt it to a odd-ball part. Get your money back!

I went out and measured my bucket, grapple bucket, and mower, all made by bobcat. With a quality thin machinist's 18" scale, from the top pocket point down to the bend, they all are about 15.85". All of the plates ride tight to the adapter too. I measured the top and bottom angles too. Top is about 45deg and the bottom is 120deg.

Also, there was no welding inside the top narrow angles.

That's an interesting point. I did have to modify the profile of the top of my paddles to fit the factory Kubota bucket. But. Now I have a second Kubota bucket, a Land Pride grapple, Titan forks, and two different aftermarket plates for home made implements. All fit within 1/16" or less.
