Thanks for those video's I watched both.

Here one of mine on its trailer (trailer has since been painted, so it looks a whole lot nicer. One of these days I'll get the Coot sandblasted and painted). Another picture shows how the front and rear tub are articulated, keeping all four wheels on the ground, even in very rough terrain. That articulation, the fact that it is 4WD with no differentials, and 12" of ground clearance over a smooth belly mean that it rarely gets stuck. If even one wheel has traction, it eventually gets itself out. The turning radius does suffer due to the lack of differentials, but the 4WS partially makes up for it.

and, since this is a Tractors and Wood thread, here it is pulling about 3000# trailer + green American Beech. (This was before I put the new tires on and reinstalled the rollbar.) It pulled it OK on level ground, and up a moderate slope. Going down hill was quite an adventure. I don't pull those kind of loads with it anymore

Those were great pictures, thanks for posting. For some reason I was picturing the 6 wheel drive thing, this is totally different I cant even remember seeing it before. I'd rather have that Coot that then the UTV I have, probably not made anymore. Does it free wheel going down hill? if it doesn't hope you have good brakes.

The way I look at this thread, if someone uses anything for tractor work and or haul wood, this is as good as any place to show pictures. I started using atv's for getting firewood alot 25 years ago, before that I use a cut down 58 GMC truck, ot to see if I have some pictures of it around here somewhere.

Because I really don't need one. It's really NOT often that my logs are that dirty...

Most of what I need to skid I can leave the upper end of the tree on, lift the back [logs] off the ground and skid to where the logs are cut out and loaded. The top that gets dirtiest ends up as firewood...

Also, I'm just not milling as much as I use too, so not spending much money on the mill...

The above picts., were from a big project I took on, I doubt I'll ever do that again...

That is one heck of garden hose, looked like something from a fire truck and it is a good way to water the lawn at the same time, the garss looks good for this time of year.

It’s not a current picture.

It would seem a nice new Honda or Similar repower would improve the experience... I remember the old 12hp engines like riding a lawn mower as in loud...

Sure do look to be very versatile and capable... light weight, flexible and large balloon tires plus the optional outboard set up... very cool

Right, I could not support that amount of flow from my well. Maybe he was pumping from a pond or creek, with my trash pump I can pump the volume he showed, plus some.

I think we washed every log on that job,

and there were quite a few loads,

all from the same property,

and they were all milled to a "materials list" for that same customer,

and delivered,

and stacked on stickers. This is only a small part of it,

Anyway, the water comes from one of my ponds, by way of a Kubota pump through a 2" hose with a fire hose nozzle...

Those were great pictures, thanks for posting. For some reason I was picturing the 6 wheel drive thing, this is totally different I cant even remember seeing it before.

That 6 wheel thing you were thinking of was probably a Max. It is also amphibious and steers like a skid-steer. It's not quite as stoutly built as a Coot (a Coot is built like a tank). I've never driven a Max, but I've heard it is better on handling in the water than a Coot. A Coot holds more (1000# plus the driver, if I recall) and tows more (1500# comfortably, more if you want to push the limits).

I'd rather have that Coot that then the UTV I have, probably not made anymore. Does it free wheel going down hill? if it doesn't hope you have good brakes.

Each axle on the Coot is driven by a ring and worm gear from the main driveshaft. There is more gear reduction in the transmission and in the chain drive from the transmission output to the driveshaft. Power from the engine is delivered by a Comet clutch (actually a torque converter). This drive ratio varies depending on engine speed (in the original Coot) or on a combination of engine speed and torque required (if you have upgraded to the torque sensitive clutch, as I have). This huge reduction results in a machine that is geared more for power than for speed: even with the 29-30" diameter tires, when in low gear, with the engine turning at 3600 RPM, I can walk faster than the Coot moves (it's odd to hear an engine cranking for all it's worth, and see the Coot moving at about 2 MPH). In high gear, it maxes out at about 20 MPH.

Braking is a tiny disk brake on the main drive shaft - similar to what was used on some go carts years ago. It doesn't sound like much (and it's not), but since the worm gears are between the brake and the wheels, it doesn't take much to stop the axles from turning. Engine braking is pretty good as well, with all that gear reduction in the way. As long as I keep the engine turning fast enough to keep the clutch engaged, the speed stays under control, even going down hill.

The original engine was a 12 HP single cylinder Tecumseh: loud and a LOT of vibration. A 16 HP Briggs Vanguard V-twin is a popular replacement: smoother, quieter, and more power. They are a bit taller than the original, so a few minor modifications need to be made. Honda engines will not fit.

The maple I brought up on Christmas, today I ran it through splitter, & stacked it in a crate.IMG_20181229_150112.jpg
Just enough to fill it too.

The pieces on top we're the ant riddled end, so they go above the tarp to hold it down

Poplar tree on the left went down in recent wind. Having that much dang poplar on the ground is only half the problem. It killed two of our renterç—´ heifers when it went down.

Here is that tree that killed the 2 renters heifers. I knew it was dead but it sure disintegrated when it hit the ground. The heifers were not even under any wood, just laying dead on the ground near the debris. Really weird. The base is 5 feet in diameter.
