You know - without a general idea of where the Op is located or what the tractor will be used for - - its difficult to provide informed answers.

What - Relevant.

Where - Not.

"Where" sure is relevant.
Say someone wants to dig a trench...
My soil is rock free down about to 10-15 ft., heavy red clay. But, at around 6 ft, there is a layer called 'caliche'...hard as concrete for a foot or so.

Next guy has rocks everywhere, layers of shale? River Rock? Pebbles in sand?....maybe tons of tree roots and rocks...

This is just in regards to the soil, now take into account the weather, annual precipitation, etc... We only get about 8" of rain for the whole year! Some folks get that every 2 days... Can't compare

Knowing a general location gives people an idea on how to respond to questions. I see pictures on some of your posts...it's green, looks like it could be wet at times.... You can briefly look at my location listed and instantly know it's dry, hot, and sunny 300 days a year.

This is why people ask for a location. They are not asking for your address, only even just a region.

What’s the planned use to want 35 hp in a 1700 pound tractor? You’ll never put that power to the ground and you’ll be unlikely to get a mower big enough to use it.

Tractor will be used mostly for mowing my hilly 1 acre residential lot, plowing snow off my 200' driveway, digging various drainage ditches or minor/small stump/root removals once in a while, minor landscaping type work around the house, hauling firewood, dirt, stone etc in a small trailer once in a while. And then maybe 1-3 times a year I need to bush hog about 2 acres on another property. Plus maybe some minor tree clean up there once in a while as well.

My gravely 20hp tractor is a sturdy beast but it can't bush hog my 2 acres. It smoked the clutch in it and labored the motor. Like Captain Kirk, I want more power for my attachments. Won't need it 95% of the time, but when I need it I want it. Plus I like the idea of having reserve power so I'm not taxing my tractor in any way. And if the tractor's a mere 200-300 lbs heavier than a 20-25hp model? Seems like a good idea to me.

I personally think you would be happy with a subcompact 23 to 25 hp tractor as long as what you are brush hogging isn't really rough. It won't be fast but if its only 2 acres it will do that easy. A 23hp diesel will pull and do more work than you can imagine. A Kubota Bx or a small B will do the job just fine.

What size brush hog where you using. I think the most a 20 hp tractor could pull would be a 4 ft'r. Sounds like maybe you might be trying to do to much too fast but I agree with others a good 25 hp tractor should do all you describe if properly matched to the right size attachments.

Where is absolutely relevant. I've asked your location twice because of it's relevance to the subject and comments. Once you responded with sarcasm. Once you ignored the inquiry. Neither time did you answer. So now I give your responses little credibility in thes discussions. :)

I used to have a Kubota B2910 that was exactly what you are describing as your preference. That model was superceded by B3030. Not sure what the new model number is. 30hp small CUT. Great mowing tractor with a MMM. Heavy enough to easily handle 5ft attachments. Never lacking HP.

a great source of information is TractorData.com - information on all makes and models of tractors. Plug in the brand and model number and you'll get the specifications. Used in conjunction with craigslist or tractorhouse and you'll get a better understanding of the tractors you find interesting.

I can't recommend a SCUT due to ground clearance limitations.

ovrszd - post #18. Amazing, we both think along the same lines. What is with this new generation - is it cool to remain "lost" or does it give an aloof feeling? Surely, nobody should feel that by sharing their location that they will be subject to any nefarious actions. I just can't understand.........
