So, if I may ask
1 - Who is your cell phone provider?
2 - Do you have good coverage? (for making calls)
3 - What kind of data/cell plan?
4 - How many phones and what type?
5 - What does you average bill run you?
Just trying to determine if Verizon has been treating me fairly over the years and if they really are competitive.
1. T-Mobile
2. I'll be honest, if I see a corn field, I lose service. In urban areas it's quite good coverage. On the interstate between towns, nope. State parks in the woods. Nope.
3. We have unlimited data/text/voice. However, it's 2gig of LTE data, then it's throttled down to unlimited 3G data. Fine for me and my wife, because we're on WIFI at home and don't watch movies over the cellular network. Our kids sometimes get throttled back to 3G towards the end of the month. It's only happened a few times in the 5ish years we've been with T-Mobile. Most folks are on WIFI unless they are on the road.
4. We have 4 lines. Three (3) are iPhones and one (1) is an android of some type.
5. My bill has been $134.00 per month for 3 years. For some reason 4 months ago it dropped to $129 per month.
Here's a few more things you might find useful...
T-Mobile has EXCELLENT customer service. I mean really, really great customer service. I'm completely satisfied with their service. Their coverage outside of urban area sucks! That's just the truth. In urban areas, I've never been disappointed. You see that cornfield coming and you better finish that text quick!
I was given my iPhone5 free from my last employer when they decided to stop providing phones and started paying $50 per month stipends to me and other employees to pay towards my own phone bill. My wife was given her iPhone5c for free from her employer for the same deal. I'm no longer employed by that employer, but I'm not required to have a cell phone by my new employer. Neither is my wife. I bought my daughter an iPhone5c reconditioned for $200. She killed it a couple years later and last year I bought her an iPhone6 used for about $300. My other daughter has had a couple android phones. She killed her first one and bought another. I think she spent $500 on the first one and $450 on the second. There's been a few cracked screens, broken displays, bad charge ports over the years, but I'm pretty good at repairing the older iPhones. The parts are cheap. The tools are cheap. A few weeks ago my wife dropped hers into the toilet. I was able to save that one, too.
So I don't purchase phones through T-Mobile. I bought our used phones through Walmart. They're half the price or less. I don't need the latest and greatest. Do you purchase phones through your carrier? What would your bill be if you didn't purchase phones through your carrier if you do?
Anytime I've been right next to someone with a Verizon phone and I lose T-Mobile service at a state park, in the car on the interstate between urban areas, or out at our tree farm, the Verizon phone still has service. Yet for $129 per month for 4 lines, I can live with that.
T-Mobile has a lot of free stuff, depending on the plan you get. They have plans with unlimited LTE data too. Free Netflix, Free Pandora, Free Streaming, if you're on their network. It's worth checking out. If anything, maybe you can use that info as leverage against another carrier to get your rates lowered.
Good luck. Who'd have thought just 10 years ago that we'd be happy paying $200 phone bills when we thought $45 for our land line was high?
