Is it a good thing?

I got the impression from this forum that most people want nothing to do with it. But on last nights news I seen a very large crowd hootin & hollerin for it.

I'm sure it's popular in corn growing states like Iowa, but not anywhere else.

Growers and processors want it, it would give them a big boost in demand. Drop the subsidies and see if it is viable. Even Al Gore understands it is time to drop subsidies..

This proposal is going to run into some form of S++T storm right off.

The Owners Manual for my Ford F-150, Jeep TJ and BMW R1200GSA say - "DO NOT USE FUEL WITH GREATER THAN 10% ETHANOL".

Hard to believe that I am the only person in the entire USA with these fuel requirements for their vehicles.

OK - so our benevolent government will force me to sell my vehicles and purchase something new that can use E15.

I wonder who they think will buy my vehicles?

And the other side of the coin. There are people all over this world who can not get enough food and are starving. So what are we doing - encouraging our farmers to convert their food crops to gasoline additives.

You know - its not a real stretch to believe that our government and all the politicians just might have their thinking all screwed up.

E15 is supposed to be cleaner burning and decreases dependence on foreign oil. Ethanol is typically “Made in the USA”. The problem is ethanol is hard on seals, hoses etc that weren’t designed for it. And the small engine industry association (I don’t recall the name) says their equipment shouldn’t run it.
So for the majority in the USA it will be fine. For the majority on TBN it’s a PITA.

Most folks here on the forum probably don't want it, but the general public as a whole want clean air, regardless of what it takes. You have to remember that they don't know one end of a screwdriver from the other, nor do they care that they don't know. Give them a bottle of beer, TV and some credit and they're happy as a lark. We went through this same thing a few times, the catastrophic converter being the most notable. For gas engines, I doubt you'll find many that would object to a converter today.

What in the world are you talking about?

I'm pretty sure E15 gas won't take food off of anyone's plate. The problem is a surplus of corn and a shrinking market to sell it.

I think E10 is plenty, forget E15 and E85. And make plenty of regular gas for those that want it.

If the benevolent government is trying to aid the farmers that are producing the excess of corn - why not buy it from the farmers and ship it to some of the countries in Southern Africa.

Come on - don't try to tell me you are not aware of the countries with all their starving people.

I think its about time that the subsidies for corn production end also.

What a load of BS - "corn gas". How many articles have to be linked to this post explaining how corn gas costs more to produce than straight gas. What a gigantic disservice to the American public.

If there is a surplus of corn then why do I pay $10 for a 50# bag of feed corn when 15 years ago (before ethanol fuel) that same bag was $2.50?
It is not from inflation......

We get E10 but have not seen any others such as E15, I was told that it is less economical as you burn more to get the same result but this was from a self proclaimed expert so I don't know if it is true.

I thought it was odd that a large gathering of republicans at a trump rally last night was going crazy in support for E15. That's it.

With E fuel, you get less mpg, so it's true that you have to burn more to get the same amount of work done... You don't notice it so much with E10, not sure about E15 though...

You definitely notice it with E85 though!

I HATE the stuff! (E fuel)

Also our cars advise to use 91 Octane only but an earlier one advised 91 or E10 so I go with the manufacturers recommendations.
The difference in price here is only about 1 or 2c per litre.

Burning food for fuel. They don't throw rice at weddings in the Philippines.

That price increase is the result of the E10 mandate. Along with higher meat prices and anything else that is a corn consumer.

Our government wants all the older vehicles off the road to force us into buying newer cars. The auto manufacturers are pricing themselves out of business so they need another bailout.

You are 100% correct.

Current auto pricing cannot be sustained.
The average pick up truck buyer will not pay $70k for a truck.

So the customer base is shrinking.

Now in steps the government in an attempt to create auto customers by force.

We are heading for another "correction"

Hopefully this time the government does not pick the winners and losers.

Who says you have to pay 70K for a new truck??

A pretty nice full size NEW 4x4 pu can be bought today for under 30K and yes that's still too much!

All you have to do is buy a nice WORK TRUCK and stop trying to get one nicer than the neighbors!!

Ford, GM and Toyota have stopped making cars here but we still pay a tariff to protect a non existent industry when buying a new vehicle.
