Not really promoting the stores, just general discussion of things found there, good, bad or indifferent.

--------------------

First up, the 12% Rebate sale ... when is it? I got emails about it last year at the end of August, but I haven't seen anything yet this fall.

We call it Redneck Walmart....

They have some good stuff and some cheap junk.

I bought two pairs of shorts there this spring for my job. Tried a pair on. It fit great, so I grabbed another one, paid and went home. Couple weeks later, I wore the first pair. Went to put something in the left front cargo pocket..... can't. It's sewn shut! So I put the other pair on.... they fell off. A full 2" larger than the other pair, but the exact same on the labels.

Moral of the story? What do you expect from $10 shorts from Rural King, Walmart, etc..... I should have stuck with name-brand items, tried both on in the store, and checked all the pockets at the store.

Now, I have gotten some good deals on some better stuff there, that's for sure. But the store is no better or worse than any other huge, bottom line retailer.

I do like them better than TSC, though. They have a lot more selection, and better prices.

Sounds like my latest adventure to TSC.. I hate buying junk, I’ll probably never go in there again, went through 30 bags taste of the wild quality dog food looking for one without holes in it, nope, no can do...

Free popcorn.

Good prices on guns. You can also order on-line and go to the store for pick up.

Very inexpensive Rural King blue jeans. Mine didn’t last long, though.

Rural King here is consistently cheaper on chemicals than Tractor Supply

For me the issue is tsc is 5 min away rural king 45. So I price shop them all the time. Tsc will match rural king prices. Just show them the rural king web page with the price.

It's about 800 miles to my nearest store, so they would need to have some pretty good specials to make it worthwhile.

Goeduck - U hit the nail squarely on its head. Appears the Mississippi is the Western boundary for Rural King.

Rural King actually has rural and agricultural supplies in stock and at honest prices. They try to sell things for the best price they can get rather than the "how can we fool 'em today" approach so common in general merchandising. It takes me a while to get there but Rural King is really the best and only place I shop for most rural things. There are some growing pains but they have it figured out and I believe will have lots more stores if they keep doing what they are doing.

One issue, and it's a sign of growing, is that some stores are managed better than others. Sometimes a lot better. There are stores I've been to that have everything, it's all priced and employees are helpful and seem to like working there. You could almost eat off the floor. Other stores might have missing merchandise or in the wrong bins, piled in boxes on the floor and not priced for weeks or even months. They'll figure it out and stores are far more good than not so it's OK with me. I'm also getting ready to make my first on-line RK order.

RK is two thumbs up for me.

While I am on the subject.

I like Milwaukee tools, corded and Batt. Loved Rockwell in days passed. So my entire extensive Milwaukee collection was purchased on-line from, you guessed it, RK. Wish I had an RK closer than 200 miles. The point is you CAN purchase quality brands from RK at great prices.

Chemicals are another Bonus. I Own a farm, I use chemicals. RK has brand and generic, great selection, great prices, prompt shipping.

I have local access to TSC, Runnings, mom and pop Ag stores, all have both strong and weak points, and all are on my list of outlets I patronize.

None are perfect, none are deliberately deceitful or misleading. If the critical folks ACTUALLY operated a business and experienced the pressures of meeting a large payroll, more sympathy might be paid to your concerns.

I suspect the vast majority of TBN folks are EMPLOYEES, never enjoying the gruelling rigors and pressures of being a sizable business owner.
Not knocking your choice, but until you sign your own paycheck, you've neither walked the walk or talked the talk.....

Some Folks would benefit greatly from the insights found in San Walton's book. And he only worked half days, either the first 12 or the second !!!! The clocks were there for sale, aisle 2

Runnings, mom and pop Ag stores
Runnings, now there's a Ag. store with the most inventory that I have ever seen. Particularly the one located in Rapid City, SD. We never fail to visit there every Fall when we are out in South Dakota. But I wouldn't classify them as a "mom and pop store", Runnings is beyond that. A very dear friend of ours used to manage the Runnings store in Pierre, SD before he retired.

Runnings appears to have captured the Midwest, while Rural King is concentrating to the east.

Runnings, (comma) mom and pop Ag stores. And runnings is in NY which is considered east and RK is not in NY, YET !!!

Really! Several Runnings stores in a couple of states east of the Mississippi River does not saturate an entire region. I strongly suggest you check a map of Runnings verses Rural King store locations. :confused3:

Ok, got the "comma" part. I just leave it go at that.................
