73°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 95° again today. Looks like some rain moving through Wednesday will take us back to the 80s.

Happy (belated) Anniversary, Kyle. Ours is coming up this weekend.

I have had a Facebook account since I missed my 25 year high school class reunion in '09, which I was told is where such announcements are posted these days. It's turned out to be a nice tool to reconnect with dispersed family members and friends, as well as a pretty good way to spread information about music endeavors. It is easy to get caught up in the garbage there, though, and there's plenty of it. I just scroll past that stuff. Like Roy, I'm a member of several firearms and reloading groups - as well as several music groups, obviously - which are generally a collection of some pretty decent people. There is the occasional jerk, who always end up weeding themselves out in short order. Facebook rules on gun groups has changed drastically over the last year, though. There are no firearms sales allowed, and recently they've even started banning sales of parts and accessories, too. I visit those groups less often of late, as most of the posts seem to be people whining about the new rules. Not interested in that. Again, I see the pictures in my news feed, then scroll on to something else. Facebook - and any other social media site - can be a useful tool, or it can be a pit of despair. It's all up to how you use it.

I wasn't "forced" to go to college, but it certainly was highly recommended in my childhood home. I got a track scholarship to a state university, and it didn't take long for me to figure out that I didn't want to be there. I dropped out the first year and went to work. Looking back, that was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made. Much of my work life has been pretty cruddy as a result. I was in my 40s before experience finally helped me bag a decent-paying job. Had I stayed in college, I could have cut 20 years off of that pursuit. I get that college isn't for everyone. It wasn't for me. But, there are other avenues available as well. Namely, trade schools. I have always been a big proponent of learning a skilled trade if traditional college isn't in the cards for whatever reason. Seeing the serious lack of availability of skilled craftsmen since I got into management has reinforced that perception.

Claye, shopping is simply excellent therapy for women...but then you knew that. ;)
Hope your wife feels better every day.

LS, my next older brother was in pain for six months after a total knee replacement.
Some folks take longer to heal. Now he rode an accounting desk, but you are very physically active.
How long have you been in serious twingey pain? When do you get a second opinion?

All the sci-fi I have read and watched for fifty years, and we still don't have a hand held medical analyzer, heck even a giant
stand up one...far beyond MRI, we can reduce one to Star Trek size in the future.
And with all our 3D printing capability, I'm hoping medical science will make quantum leaps.
1 new knee, yes sir, we'll print that right up for you, please check our specials on aisle 6 and we'll have this in a few minutes for you.
Insertion by teleportation included. No need for surgery.
We'll have you hefting those four hundred pound obese women into the ambulance by the end of the day

PJ, well said. What's scary is my going through four straight local teenagers and none had any real work ethic.
Not one lasted a day outside in the heat doing actual work, like I was doing...
But if they learn a trade, h/v/ac, manufacturing/engineering, welding, construction, auto/truck/tractor mechanics, plumbing, those skills never go out of style or need. And if they are supervised, and told what to do, their lack of drive or ambition can get worked around.
Maybe they just need to work in air-conditioned rooms...that might narrow the field a bit. ;)
I have a relative who is a clock repairman. Shoe for every foot.

Am always impressed by those who can play musical instruments. Takes a lot of coordination and skill.
My next older brother tried out on the trombone in high school. That was painful.
At times even the family dog would move to a far room...
And if you have musical talent and can earn a living by it, a living with some security, well all the better.

the burn pile is calling.

Please, please, please don’t start your fire with gasoline Drew! If you pour it on your burn pile you’ll have no idea where the vapors are. It’s the vapors that blowup. If you need an accelerant, use diesel or kerosene.

If you treat your all of your gasoline, including your 2-cycle mix, with StaBil Marine 360, it won’t go bad.

Miserable smoke through the weekend until yesterday afternoon when it started to sprinkle. It has been sprinkling since on and off. Smoke is gone locally, hoping the fires are out or at least better contained. We also had a 20 degree drop in temps, so with some rain and lower temps, perhaps firefighters can get the upper hand quickly and end this fire season.

My wife put some ribs and chicken on the Traeger Friday, she usually uses apple juice to keep them moist, but was out, so used a jar of store bought peaches (LOL, with the fresh peaches we have had, I think she figured no one would eat the store bought ones).. turned out good. Problem is, we don't eat near as much meat at a sitting as we used to. We have plenty of leftovers, enough to share with company yesterday and still have some left.

Even with the smoke on Saturday, wife/daughter/granddaughter wanted to go to amusement park (they have season passes), so off we went. I enjoyed the day sitting in my camping chair, watching the fun.

In high school, I had decided I was going to trade school and become a farm machinery mechanic, so was not taking the "4year college prep classes" and then as a junior was talked into college, so had to take a bunch of classes in grades 11/12. The last semester, I was taking 2 extra classes, one before school and one after school, taking a full year in one semester. I finished up a week after I graduated (did not get actual diploma at graduation ceremony, had to wait until I completed all my classes). I went to state university one year, learned some bad habits, dropped out after that year, farmed for Pa, then realized that I needed to find a trade school, so found one 1500 miles away (Phoenix, AZ). Folks helped me get started and then I paid my own way. At first I was working 3 jobs plus full time school, then after a year, was getting enough hours at Sears automotive to quit the other jobs. I stayed part time at Sears because full time employees were limited to 40 hrs, as part timer, I could work all I wanted, averaged around 50 hrs week. Sears offered to match my post college job to keep me, but I wanted to try working in the field I studied. I've been with the same company since (lots of different jobs, but same company).

I think the problem with college now is the falsehood that 4 year degree equals high paying job. My oldest daughter got her teaching certificate and got a nice job (many K-12 teachers are underpaid, but that is another day's discussion). One of her friends got a 4 year degree in English and could not understand why she could not get a high paying job. Kids are being lied to, told to get a degree in something you love. It saddles them with debt (or their parents) and no job. The young woman that got her English degree, had to move home with her parents and go to a trade school. She is a massage therapist last I heard.

Pastor at church yesterday made an interesting comment, he said, "Young people today are not lazy, they simply lack passion." It made me think of the kids I went to college with, the ones paying their own way were working so much harder than those that had grants or parents or other means to pay (generally speaking, of course it was not every kid)..

I agree completely. That "get a college degree" mantra has been false for a long time now. I recognized it when I was there. I absolutely did not want to get a degree in music. Even as a teenager, I knew that would be a waste of time and money. Even worse, though, was my declared major was Philosophy. Philosophy. Even the counselors at the university tried to talk me out of that. It didn't matter, though, because I just didn't want to be there. I'm sure we all know a bunch of people with either worthless degrees, or degrees that are of no benefit in the field they ended up working. I have a bunch of friends with music degrees. Exactly one of them actually works in music. He just recently retired from the USMC Band ("The President's Own"), and is working as a professor at a major university. All of the others are working in IT or some manual labor job. "Get a degree in something you love" is just the new push to get kids to go to college. It's absolutely terrible advice, in my opinion.

72°F and .26 inches rain last 24 hours. Drying out, recovering.

Suspect it is still too wet but would like to resume my bushhog activity.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day.
