Mahindra Max28XL Starting Problem

My 2012 Max28XL will not run after I release the key from the cranking position. It will run as long as I hold the key in the cranking position.


I did this once before but after several tries, it kept running.
Ignition switch is good because when in the on position, dash gauges come on the warmer cycles.
Any help for a newbie member would be appreciated.

Theres a start and a run relay.. sounds like the run relay went "kaput"..

Fuel pull solenoid is failing. (hold coil)

Sounds like you need the fuel solenoid, the start winding turns on the fuel while cranking and the hold circut takes over when you release the key to the run postion.

Will, most likely need a new one. Look by your oil filter - cylinder looking with wires... tight spot but easy replace. I had exact problem / symptoms as you describe.

Its to the left of the injection pump.. looks like 1/2 a soda/beer can..
MEASURE how far its turned in.. some people have a hard time reinstalling them..

Here’s a picture from a Mitsubishi manual believe you’d should be similar. Mahindra had problems with the solenoid on a number of the max tractors and replaced them under warranty. Might want to check with the dealer

Good info about the warranty Don.!!!
I don't know why they go thru all that "measuring" nonsense..
Start the engine.. screw the sol. in SLOWLY until the machine shuts off.. lock it down..
plug it in, start & stop the engine w/ the key.. {check your work} easy peazy..

I don't know of any 28s that are under 2yrs old so most likely out of the bumper to bumper warranty... its an easy fix to do yourself though... just be sure you unplug with wires and twist with the solenoid when you spin it off and also when you put the new one on... makes life easier to unbolt the coolant reservoir

I am having a little different problem. My tractor runs fine if the RPM's are not maxed out, Once I open the throttle all the way after 10-20 mins the tractor shuts off. It will start up normally after that, but will shut off again if I open the throttle all the way. Any ideas? I was not sure if the fluid solenoid would cause this.

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter and air filter

Just a fair warning>> folks that are buying those off the web are experiencing that SOME of the plugs are different..
You may have to cut & solder?? But after all is said & done, the solenoid works as it should..

The only issue I've ever had with mine. Turns over fine. Just wont start. The wire that connects to the rail on top look like a blade type. Unplug it and plug it back on. Usually starts after that. Now it wont fire at all.

Once it ever starts, runs great. Seems like its once few months. Could it be the fuel shut off?
