Doofy, I agree with the weight loss. I am in the same situation, need to lose 72lbs (more would be nice, but that would be a great start). I snore, more on my left side than when I slept on my right side.

Years ago (before I gained the last 50+lbs), I snored and my wife said I would sometimes stop breathing for a bit. We had a cat that claimed me as her human, raised her from a kitten. She liked to sleep around my head for some reason. My wife was watching me one night when I stopped breathing and the cat pawed my cheek gently and I started breathing again. The cat apparently did that during the night without me knowing, but my wife saw it many times. I seldom stop breathing nowadays, but I do snore and the weight loss will help that among other things.

Stay the course, you can do it. Others on TBN have lost weight and kept it off.

Aren't animals amazing? What a sweet kitty! Yes, I am hoping weight loss will help. I have gained 52 pounds since I retired and hurt my back. To much sitting because exercise hurt.

Atkins diet works for me. I can lose 8-10 pounds a month and I don't starve. I do miss the rice, potatoes and bread but the cravings for them are gone. Almost impossible to go out to eat now...people think you are weird for ordering a salad and two bare naked hamburger patties. Hahahaha.

I've been doing the "Paleo" diet approach. Though it may not follow the Paleo diet, I do it 80/20 - 80 percent of my plate is paleo, 20% or less not paleo.

After I got my digestive system back in balance, I slowly added some things I like back in... like morning toast without any problems. I avoid a lot of sugar. I may eat or drink something sweet once a day, or not. Like you said the cravings go away pretty quickly, but once in a while I like a good dessert and that doesn't pose a problem. I order the food that has less of the sugar, breads and grains. I'll take off half or the whole bun on a burger - again, I like bread once in a while. I take probiotics to keep my gut in balance and when I don't I'm reminded that I need to because of the bloated feeling, gas and digestive problems.

Hang in there - you'll be feeling so much better when the weight is down and you're not on the insulin roller coaster - the real culprit for fat.

Atkins diet is not as restrictive as it once was. Doesn't look that much different from the Paleo. At least on Atkins I can eat cheese. I do have to force myself to eat the correct portions as they consist of a larger volume of foods than I am used to. I love meat but find it difficult to always eat at least 18g per day. Same with veggies...

No stomach problems but was recently x-rayed and found to have Osteoarthritis. Joy! No wonder I am always stove-up, stiff and sore. I am confident that losing weight will help with this.

Not my experience at all. Started with a CPAP about a dozen years ago at age 50 and it changed my life. You've got to give it a month or so to get used to it. I forgot to bring it on a business trip and realized how miserable my sleeping is without it.
The sleep dr. is gonna sell you a cpap machine for thousands of $ that you'll use for 2 weeks to a month & throw it in the corner to collect dust & mold. seen it 100x..
You'll shout its marvels for a few days or even a week.. then its gonna be loud & cumbersome & your partner will sleep in another room.. see sentence #1..
I hope you find a solution..
I often thought about the same thing John Buffalo.. Football mouth guard..

I TOTALLY agree!
I am 77, and have been using a CPAP machine for 4+ years.
Friends have the full face mask type, I have the nose piece type.
I do not think I would like the full face mask (claustrophobic).
Took me a month, with several aborted attempts, to to become accustomed, but now I cannot sleep soundly without it.
I feel much more rested in the morning, and my wife is VERY happy that I no longer snore.

I have shed 20 lbs so far and my snoring has already lessened in both volume and duration. When my weight is down in the healthy range, I will definitely re-evaluate and will consider cpap. The Wife has noticed the improvement.

Way to go Doofy :)

Thanks Juan. I never realized the loudness and duration of my snores before I recorded a few nights. I thought the Wife was BSing me. She wasn't. Surprised I can sleep thru that racket!

I expect I would have been long since dead had I not started using a CPAP machine 14 years ago.
