That is a regular snake,, and a L O N G stick to hold the snake close to the camera,,,
Yeah, it works to make a nice fish look bigger in a picture.

My wife and I where out on the Savannah River yesterday and she came upon something I have never seen before a swimming rattle snake. Hard to tell by the attached pictures but it was a good sized, about 4-feet long, what I think was an eastern diamond back although it may have been a light colored timber rattler. Snake was perfectly comfortable in the water stopping several times to check us out when we got to close. This spot is about 40-miles downriver from Augusta and nothing but woods and farmland on either side and about 100-yards across.
Wish we had gotten better pictures but the current and wind were pushing the jetski around.

VERIFY: Was a massive copperhead snake found in Canton, Ga.? | 11alive.com...That copperhead was more than 40 inches long and pregnant with 15 snakes...
In my first hand experience with them they are an aggressive snake...second to only the cotton mouth...Copperheads are beautiful but not wise to mess with them. Our Lab cornered one along the driveway couple years ago, fortunately I was able to pull him away before he was bitten. Retrieved my snake killer shovel but he was gone when I got back.
Around here they are often found around wild berry patches...they prey on the birds that are after the berries/seeds...getting a slight whiff of cucumber like smell is a good heads up to be careful when picking berries...Hmmm never got my nose close enough to smell one! Most people are bitten when they step on them in the woods, practically invisible in the leaves.
It's the girth of the snake that makes it extraordinary...there is no way to enhance that aspect by manipulating the focal points...
