60 when I got up and headed to mid 80s. No rain in the forecast today.

Later I am going to look at a 1978 Ford 4x4 pickup and see if it is worth buying. I borrowed a friends wheels to go so I don't have to bobtail the tractor up there.

Talk about Friday 13th. I screwed up big time when I was loading (it is all top load) I filled my lead trailer. (It is supposed to be down about 16" from the top.) So I left the pup down 2" lower than normal to compensate for the overload on the front 1/2. I came out of the terminal 6,000 lbs light. Oh, well, that's life.

A humid 60ºF start to the morning with anticipated temperatures reaching the low 80ºF's this PM. I had a + surprise last evening. The local, independent mechanic called to tell me that he disassembled/cleaned/reassembled and the calipers and cylinders on my Tundra and it was ready to go. From past - experiences with most of the "local" dealerships this would have cost me ~$2000. I'll see how much I saved supporting a local independent business. Then load the truck and make a dump run. Hopefully it will rain and water the seed laid down by the service contracted by the solar company to clean up and mulch around the array. They did a great job.

Phil- Enjoy your mini-retirement. I hope everything works out as planned.

62 right now...high predicted to be in the uppers 70's and an 80% probability of rain. That rain will probably prevent outdoor work. Not enough trash for a dump run, so not going there. I do need to get another part for that grill that Walmart "assembled". Can't complain too much, since I also missed it when I was tightening all the fasteners.

Some of you may have read my morning posts about the hassles I'm have with the tractor end PTO connector for the chipper I'm going to look into that today too.

Good morning to all!

Low of 58, going up to 83. Still 60% chance of showers/storms. Same as the last two days. Didn't get one drop. Heavy rains all around surrounding areas, even flash flood warnings posted. We really, really, need it here.

I tried tempting the rain clouds by getting out the tools, didn't work. I hadn't gone into the jeep after the dust storm last week.... HOLY COW ! ...the inside was brown (normally charcoal color). So really tempted the clouds, for almost 4 hours, cleaning out the dirt. Still not done. Just have the front area to do, so I'll be tempting those clouds again.

The storms look very menacing, you can watch them form in the distance and grow. They almost make it to us, them just dissipated. No real steering currents up high, so they are almost stationary. Maybe today will be our turn. I hope soon, now it is supposed to 'get drier' by Tuesday.... I don't know how it can get any drier.

OOH, I FIGURED OUT WHY WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN ANY RAIN....I PUT UP A NEW RAIN GAUGE 2 DAYS AGO....DUUUHHH !!!

Looks like 52* for the low this morning, yesterday was in the the low 90's it was mostly sunny and a light wind. It's partly cloudy this morning with a 20% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon with a high in the upper 80's.

All we have in the house to cool it off are fans, they didn't work all that well yesterday. So the wife politely informed me that on are trip to SLC Monday that we are going shopping for some kind of A/C. Not sure if I'm looking forward to that.

No real plans for today, work on the trailer or do the maintenance on the tractor.

Good Morning!!!! 75F @ 7:00AM. Sunny. High near 100F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

We had rain clouds overhead all day yesterday, but just a few drops fell. Twice I looked up off the back patio and saw faint rainbows, but the drops didn’t make it to the ground. The ten day says we won’t even see that, and highs will stay in the high 90s and low hundreds. Gonna be another killer electric bill from runnin the A/C all day and all night, too.

I installed a “connected” thermostat here last year, Jay, and immediately disabled the timers and other fancy automations that are supposted to be smart enough to keep you comfortable. My experience is that they cause the system to heat or cool when it’s not needed, and really only work for folks on a regular work schedule that has them out of the house on weekdays during regular hours. Having IR guided vanes sounds like a gimick to me, one that will be expensive to fix when, not if, it breaks. The one feature on the new thermostat that makes it worth while is being able to turn it on and off from the smart phone, even when I’m not in the house. It was nice to turn the A/C on the other day as I was heading home from a day in town, for example. Similarly, I´ve installed “connected” wall switches that let me use the smart phone to turn the ceiling and floor fans on/off from the phone. I can even say “Siri, turn on the master bedroom ceiling fan” if I’m feeling too lazy to reach for it and push the button myself. Having said that, though, I hope your new system has a long, and trouble free, life!

Truer words were never spoken about aging in place, Don. But it’s a sad future.

Spent most of the day yesterday making a bearing driver on the lathe. Made it so I could use a piece of 7/8 threaded rod and a couple of nuts to draw the bearing into place, but ended up just using the hydraulic press instead and it was a lot less fussy to do that way. So I’ll give the tool to my buddy in town whose press isn’t wide enough to take a wheel and tire (I didn’t think mine was, either, until I measured it and found I had 3/4” to spare).

Night before last a fire broke out on the east side of Chico, endangering a neighborhood of expensive new homes. Firefighters were able to prevent any losses, but there were photos in the local paper showing ashes almost up to one home’s back door. :shocked: That’s way too close for comfort!

if you are into planes, and sometimes Youtube "suggests" stuff to me, since I watch videos of planes landing in foreign lands. Kind of a fun way to travel...and once there you can watch a Youtube video of a ride looking out a country's train window, and then if you want to stop and look around, it's amazing how many foreign cities have detailed Google Maps pics. They fuzz out the faces in the pictures, which is good, but you are right there. In many cases remarkable third world squalor and all.

It was a nice day today, got the fruit orchard mowed this afternoon, wanted to try out the JD garden tractor after I got it back from dealer, worked great.
One nice apple tree is dying and I have no idea why.

Cooked a t bone steak for dinner, ate half of it, after having meat ball parm for lunch at nice Italian restaurant in town, I'm on meat overload.
Steak was great, got lucky and cooked it right.
I bought a beautiful made in NC SS propane grill plumbed into my big outside tank and it doesn't cook worth a darn.
Just doesn't get hot enough to sear a steak.
Now if I had cooked that same steak on a charcoal grill, probably would have eaten the whole thing.

Chopped up a lot of tomatoes today, going to work on a nice red sauce tomorrow. The nice ones go in the bags
for the food pantry, I get the cracked ones, bug bit ones, soft ones, all the rejects. Sharp knife and all the good parts almost
filled a really big tupperware.

Want to make a meatless sauce, will be looking for ways to enrich the flavor, like a can of mixed greens.
That stuff in my meat loaf is wonderful, should be good in a slow cooked sauce also.
I'm not brave enough to try okra in it. But I might pour the red sauce over
baked cornmeal coated okra. Or some light breading. I still haven't eaten my own okra, need to
build up some courage here.

In late fall of ‘69 we were on finals at Kadena (Okinawa), had wheels down, when ATC advised us to go around because Blackbird was behind us.

Our plane sheltered in same secure hanger with Blackbird.

The BB guys took the four of us out for dinner in Chatan that night. And .... they paid.

Good evening all. 78F for the start, partly cloudy, calm wind. Wind pick up quite a bit, sky cleared off, and high temp of 96F. Bike ride this morning, Don if you are interested, 63 miles, 4:15 moving time, 4:48 overall time 2300 feet of climb 3 1/2 bottles of water. Lunch, nap, stepdaughter came over to visit.
