Tractor
International 1066 Full sized JCB Loader/Backhoe and a John Deere 430 to mow with
Looking around at some used tractors. I find locally (that catch my eye)

Allis Chalmers 6080 (I'm told 83 HP @ pto)

Kubota MS9540 (unsure of HP but believe it to be more than the AC)

AC is 2wd, Kubota is 4wd

Person with the AC tractor has a bushog 315 cutter. I understand it's 15' and....well....used. He says he has some parts in hand to maintain it. (personally I find that to be a good comment the way he phrased it)

Anyway..... AC tractor and 315 are at same seller. Kubota is tractor alone.

Is the AC sufficient to pull the 315, especially up slopes while cutting 4' fields that haven't been cut in maybe 2 years? (fields are clear, just not been cut for while)

I like the simplicity of appearance of the AC tractor....but the Kubota is newer, slightly larger and 4wd

Both machines are tractor only (no loader, box blade, nothing)
Both machines have simple canopy on top.

Pricing (asking price) is:

AC tractor: $7,500
315: $4,000 "but negotiable for package deal"

Kubota: $15,500

Thoughts?

With the slopes, I would prefer the 4x4 Kubota and its extra hp. Ken Sweet

I went from a 2wd to 4x4 tractor..smaller to bigger as well, non weighted tires to weighted (double the power/weight). Brush hogged with both.

I prefer the bigger/newer/more powerful - but - it's HST not geared (i prefer HST). Never needed 4x4 to mow the pastures, and there are hills to go up.

4x4 comes in handy in MUD, odd camber type slopes/transitiions/ditches. but locking the rear diff works as well.

The only time I really use the 4x4 is with the loader - extra traction pushing into piles and such.

Rule of thumb on brush hogs is 5hp for every foot - so 15ft wants 75 hp.

If you need a BH go look at what they cost new or used and decide what's the best way to go.

The Kubota M9540 is 95 HP, 84 at the PTO. (I don't think Kubota made an MS9540)

For future reference when tractor shopping, check out TractorData.com it has specs on a huge variety of tractors.
