Good morning!!!!

Just back from an early morning hike...drenched from sweat due to such high humidity, although only 68 degrees. Should hit low 90s.

Found fresh deer and fawn tracks in the silt near the bridge. Also found that the yuccas are starting to bloom in an area that I've let them grow....27 flower stalks this year. We usually have very few mosquitos, but many gnats...this year we have both in enough volumes to start an export business, if I could find any buyers.

David, that is so sad to see that photo...I love geology and geography and have been to a few (dormant) volcanoes...but sorry to see such devastation.

So, will Don set up a "Previously Owned" golf ball stand in his back yard soon?

So, will Don set up a "Previously Owned" golf ball stand in his back yard soon?

My neighbors use my back field for a driving range. I got a good supply of golf balls I could send Don to get his businesses going. Which reminds me when putting weed killer down I saw 4 more that need picking up.
Be careful out there Don, when cutting your lawn. Maybe you should wear a hard hat.

Good morning all! Low of 48, going up to 88. Unbelievably dry, humidity is at a crazy low of 4%. Forest fire north of here started yesterday, blew up in size to 200 acres within 4 hours. Bad conditions for that, winds going to be at 20 mph in the fire area. Hopefully they can get a handle on it. Weather guessers still saying maybe showers on Sunday.

Have an ortho doc appt. this morning, hopefully nothing wrong w/ the knee. So far still scheduled to go back to light duty starting Monday.

David, awesome pictures. Really shows a perspective of the size of the flows.

Prayers out to everyone this morning. Have a great day.

Good Morning!!!! 53F @ 5:30AM. Sunny. High 83F. Winds WNW at 10 to 15 mph.

That's a LOT of golf balls, MG! And a LOT of eggs, too! Ever launch one with your lawn mower?

That's a heck of a thing to happen to the architect/builder, David. We all take chances in life, but not usually with such spectacular results. Kekoa seems to have it easy on that oversized dog bed, though.

Drew, I thought this was a family rated group!

Been getting two or three wildfire reports a day here now, Ted. The grass is all dead and brown, er golden, and people are still careless with their cigarette butts, trailer safety chains, and BBQ ashes. Yeah, we've had two garbage trucks go up in flames from coals in the garbage cans. Hope you get some good news at the ortho doc's, even if it does mean going back to work. But what does "light duty" mean for an EMT? You gonna be stuck in the office for a while?

Yesterday started off simple enough: Pull the valve covers and tighten up the head nuts one more time, then monkey with the screw adjusters on the valves to get the clearances back. The left side didn't even need adjusting, a good sign that the head gaskets are done squeezing themselves flat. But one nut on the right side was already loose, and thinking back, it was loose the day before, too. That's a sign that a stud is pulling its way out of the engine case, and sure enough, that nut wouldn't hold torque when the time came. Took a LOT of heat with the oxy-acetylene torch to get the remains of the threads to break loose (I think they put 'em in with Loctite at the factory), and careful drilling/threading with lots of grease to catch the chips (the hole is open to the crankcase in back) and it was ready for the insert. Good thing I made lots of extras while I was at it, as it means changing the gear wheels to get the correct feeds for the metric thread on the lathe. From there it was just a matter of installing the insert with some red Loctite, and the stud with blue, then slipping the cylinder and head back into place, but it was three o'clock before it was done. Just enough time to get grocery shopping done in town and take care of an errand or two. Don't need any more days like that, thank you very much.

TGIF, at last!:drink:

Good Morning Everyone!!

A drizzly, foggy low 69F start to the morning; warmer now; weather unchanged. I might see some sunshine Sunday if I am lucky. Coffee was å¡—istory a while ago.

Spring comes and goes quickly around here and there always seem to be limited "windows of opportunity" to get Springtime projects done before Summer starts. I/We have been pretty focused on getting things weeded, tilled, and planted the past few days. Everything that we planned to plant is now planted. Wifey's collarbone seems to be healed. I only needed three cans "Slime" to get all the "little tires" on the mower and garden cart to the point that they can hold air pressure. I "see" a lot of rock moving and chipping/shredding in my tractor's near term future once things dry out. ;):)

Claye- I hope that your wife's shoulder heals quickly.

Ted- Thanks for the MCL update:(. It sucks to have to live the "hurt if I do and hurt worse if I don't" with the MCL healing process. I really stressed myself out worrying about all the outstanding "necessary projects" surrounding me during the healing process. It's really hard to not stress about unfinished "stuff." Hang in there. Your MCL challenges read worse to me than previous postings. :( If I remember correctly your "light duty" was staff training.

Lightleader- Welcome to this thread. There is a wealth of knowledge contained here and in this site. Post freely and often.

Drew- Thanks for sharing the potato fork picture.

Randy- I am happy to read that Ronnie is doing "ok." Good luck.

PJS- I am happy to read that the cut is healing.

David- Thanks for sharing the pictures and your experiences. I hope that you and Sophie remain out of harm's way.

Don- I wish you, your wife, and Whipper a successful transition to a different way of living. "Change" is never easy; I hope things go smoothly. It reads like you and your wife made a good choice. Hopefully Whipper will adapt to "community living."

Kyle- Good luck and my prayers for your daughter, you, and family.

I hope that everyone has a manageable weekend.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

67°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 92° today. Most of the severe weather passed us to the south yesterday evening. We got nothing, but roads were quite wet just about two miles north when I went into Highland last night.

Wife has spent the last two days going to court with her father. He's been renting a house to another family member for about the last 15 or so years. The city recently forced them out and condemned the place. He hasn't been able to get into the house yet, but my Wife was shown some pictures yesterday by the city attorney. She said she almost cried, and said she didn't even recognize any of the rooms in the pictures. Two police officers said they had to climb over mounds of stuff to get from room to room, and there was dog feces all over the place. The attorney said they've never seen a hoarding case this bad. After Wednesday in county court, and yesterday in city court, she was able to get them to stop sending him fines (as the property owner) for the condition of the place, and they even told him not to pay any of the existing fines, now that they know the situation. Now they have to wait for the eviction process to fully play out before he can go in and clean. He really has no one to help him, and he's 73 years old, so it looks like we'll be putting off our deck build until later this year so we can help him rehab the house. She was sick to her stomach over the whole thing when I got home last night. This was the house they lived in before she struck out on her own in 1986. She helped him rehab it when they moved in, and 33 years later she's going to do it again.

On a much brighter note, looks like Sunday will be sunny and 82° here, so it might be a fairly pleasant day to get the pasture mowed.

Nice golf ball collection there, Mostly. I'll have to show that to my Wife to help convince here that our meager 12 dozen (new) is no big deal.

Gravely loader repair went very well until we started it up and now it has a new leak on one of the fittings. It is a street el type fitting with tapered pipe threads going into cylinder. We tried several times to get it to seal, but no luck. Next attempt will be some new sealant..

Prayers for those in need, very busy bunch of folks all over the world.

John, our Cottage resident that is awaiting his home to be built forwarded me this pic taken from helicopter. The house, closest, lower left is where his architect/builder (Kevin) was moving in few weeks ago. As you can see the area has been devastated by the corrosive atmosphere. The lava is going other direction. Definitely put a crimp in John’s time schedule, but we agree Kevin has more important priorities right now.

That's an incredible picture, David. Such primordial destruction mere yards away from paved roads, homes, and swimming pools. What an amazing planet we live on.
